So, I want to buy an EX1.

I am half way shooting a documentary. Mainly interlaced, 50i.

The end output is going to be DVD.

Would it be OK for me to start shooting bits and pieces in full HD, 1080P, or will this cause problems editing up with the interlaced footage?

Thanks :violent5:

If it's only going to DVD, create a timeline based on the final output (DVD), then put all the clips in that, and edit. What's cool with the EX1 stuff at 1080, you will be able to do digital zooms and pans without losing resolution because you are working in standard def.

If you want to have a Hi Def version then edit in the highest def footage settings. I usually edit in 720p30 so I can put out an HD web version, then I make an SD version for the DVD.

I don't know the original footage settings, or how much of that vs EX1 footage will be in the final cut, so it's hard to answer. For that reason I went with the Doug Jenson's (Vortex Media) usual response for DVD output. Personally I edit everything at the same setting as my footage from the camera, and if there are 2 different types I go with the higher resolution setting, then take the final output file and make a DVD from that.

Fair enough. Then we agree. I just HATE throwing away resolution unnecessarily. And I particularly prefer to create a clean HD master whenever possible. I'll do the down-res from that.
