I was doing test shots with my hpx170 with a friend for a music video we are going to shoot and |I am just learning the hpx. Now I thought I had it right when I recorded in 720p instead of pn (because I just grabbed out the box and started shooting everything) and there are some shots I want to use but I shot in 720p 24fps instead of 720PN 24fps ...does that mean anything? By that, I mean if I go back to shooting at 720pn 24fps , would I still be able to use both parts of the footage in the same timeline without problems? After reading, I see the PN mode basically helps with P2 space but is that it?

basically, am I ok to use both P and PN footage together or will it be a problem?

Oh one more thing, I just downloaded the updated firmware for the e-series P2 cards, If I was to update the firmware from the sd card in the camera, would I lose my footage?? (like if you format in camera, you wipe clean whatevers there, is that the same with a firmware update)

sorry for the novice question but hey, thats what dvxuser (among other things) is about! lol

appreciate the help.

You are ok to use both P and PN in the same timeline, the PN is better for space and slomo managements.

For the firmware, backup your sd card onto your computer and U'r good to go.
Your footage is on the P2 cards not on the sd so all you have to do is to remove the cards from the camera during the FW update.

Don't worry about being a noob (haha) we all came through that !
Good luck for your shooting. Have fun and don't hesitate if you have some more questions.

This depends on your NLE. Avid MCs before 4.0 can not do this. If you use FCP you should be good. However if you ever need to convert your footage DVfilm makes a conversion software called MXFX. www.dvfilm.com
