So I produced and shot this after getting laid off

You've probably already seen this if you follow the video game industry. My first time using a HVX. I wish someone had told me the damn thing doesn't record audio in 60fps mode!

On the day I got laid off I thought it would be a good idea to take the dept. printer. Figured I could put the whole thing together withing a few days of the layoff and ride the publicity train. Produced, shot, edited and uploaded within 48 hours of the layoff.

I know your gamers but this is the real world so I sure hope you cleaned this up afterwards.....and I'm not sure, but that toner stuff is supposed to be really bad if you breathe it in. Not so smart having it cloud around regardless of how good it looks.

werd, looked good though, loved the movie office space.

Gamer developers don't live in the real world? I suppose fiction writers and film makers don't either right? Also, toner is dangerous to breathe in but only if you work at a toner factory. This is minuscule and we all naturally tried not to inhale it.

Do you have a sense of humor?

Well perhaps I shouldn't generalise (especially as I risk the wrath of the whole gamer community) but I was basing it upon the fact that there are theories that people, especially younger ones, spending lots of time on games are desensitized to their real world actions and the consequences. This may or may not be true. As a developer obviously you'll strongly disagree but to a non-gamer your actions could support that theory.

BTW: I am supposing you didn't clean it up or you would have said so.

Obviously I really detest people dumping rubbish around the place and it's a shame you (and many others) seem to have no qualms about doing so. My sport takes me into the natural environment and I'm constantly finding it spoilt by mindless dumpers. Perhaps this has made me sensitive in this area but I feel any responsible person, gamer or non-gamer alike and especially a filmmaker, would clean up after themselves. Obviously after just getting the sack you may have been less community spirited at the time.

BTW: I often wonder if "Top Gear" picks up their smashed up car bits and pieces spread out all over the place as well.....and all those movies where they crash cars down steep ravines and blow them up.

Do you have a sense of humor?

So if it's funny I shouldn't care about the stuff mentioned above?
A few minutes of fun is enough payback for leaving smashed crap lying around for who knows how long?

Anyway to answer your question, yes i do, but I missed the joke.
I got the sack, OK then, I'll smash a printer.
Whoaa that's funny?
Perhaps it's a parody of something I'm not aware of.
Happy for you that you enjoyed it.
I'm sure there are many things I find humour in that you wouldn't as well.

Why would I feel the need to say so? Do you see other films here talk about how they cleaned up after their shoots and returned their rental equipment on time? I'm sure I could pick out a few films here where a mess was made.

If you had asked me plainly without resorting to generalizations and stereotypes I would have given you the answer.

Go rent Office Space.

That could make all the difference.

I'm sure I could pick out a few films here where a mess was made.

That's probably true and perhaps you might feel like it's unfair I have singled you out. For some reason after watching your film I just felt compelled to ask the question (and I didn't really enjoy asking it either). Obviously I'm only one voice in this community thus my words have minimal value.

By now you know where I stand.
You position is less defined.

I will leave this thread so others can discuss the merits of your film as intended.

at 1:00 it is obvious the guy swinging is holding back. i realize you had only one cam and had only one chance to get your hero shot of the first smash but you could have had him swing full force just at the ground or get those shots after the printer was smashed.

pretty funny though.

Thats exactly what I told him to do and thats what I got. I should have reviewed it but we were in a rush for obvious reasons.

I don't mind being asked the question, its just the insinuation that gamers and/or people who are laid off somehow stoop to lower standards for film making. Suffice it to say we brought the printer in a big box and we took it away in the same same box including the toner that got spilled. As the saying goes, its just a movie.

honestly i wasnt my fav, i tink you did a good job of replicating the scene, and it was funny to see the toner everywhere (dont know why i didnt think it odd when it didnt happen in the film).

But it is a bit unsafe as others have mentioned.

Humorless originals are rarely funny the second time around. Case in point, this video.

So basically, "Things I personally don't find funny are not funny when remade" Wow. Great stuff, Teacher. What the hell ? Threads like this remind me why so many serious filmmakers stay away from forums and websites all together. Nevermind the video, let's just make claims about gamers, picking up rubbish, and talk about whether or not Office Space was funny or not. This is just ridiculous.

:violin:

It's not the Godfather II here, come on! This is fun. Funny vid. Easy Tigers.
