So, I got arrested today...

Im sorry, But I guess I have read one too many cops suck post. Being a former sheriff's deputy, I have sympathy and empathy for the men in blue who work very hard to protect our lives and property. If by doing so they have to arrest or at the very least, pass out tickets to trespassers of private property and the many transgressors of our laws then you got what you deserve.

Bragging that you got arrested is not very smart. It is meant that you were not where you needed to be. Our business's foundation is built solely on trust, not our skills as videographers/editors/dp/directors, etc. You no longer will be trusted in any form or fashion, because on every job application you will fill out, you will be asked if you have been arrested. Hmm is that so great? Your integrity is at stake. Your reputation...stained.
Think about that, when it comes time to step out on your own and take your place on the stage we call life.

Nice Post Slim.
Thanks, sometimes I get irritated by people (like many of my friends) who have this point of view. I know plenty of people who have been treated unfairly or brutally by cops. But I know even more who have been helped by them.

I don't think it's THAT bad. He's a kid with alot to learn, I don't think he'll have problems in the future w/ job applications and such. He'll learn just like we all did, trial and error. It didn't sound like he was neccessarily bragging.

Maybe...Maybe not. My point is that getting arrested leads to mistrust. Doesnt matter if it was stealing candy or trespassing, it is on your record. Having to explain what he did at age 16 onward is depressing and a lot to overcome.
Edit
Ok I reread the first post, maybe not bragging, but why post unless he wants sympathy. So flame me. No sympathy here.

I for one am thankful for police officers but I do realize that they are people just like the rest of us. It has to be a scary experience I mean you could pull someone over for a simple "hey your taillight is out" and he shoot you in the face because he's high on smack. I have some friends that are cops and I also happen to live in Baltimore"Murder capital of world" City. I was talking to him around 2 am one morning and he told me at this time of night there are only two people out good guys and bad guys and i'm the good guy.

I think all too often we feel it's our right to look shifty and shady and be given the benefit of the doubt by police officers. When in reality we should try our hardest to not look shady

I'm not trying to flame ya J-I understand what you're saying. I'm still a kid and still do stupid stuff. I'm just coming from that point of view.

cops are not always the good guy - they have too much power

i'll appreciate an EMT or a firefighter anyday, but police? no thanks...

Flame away. I can take it. LOL. If you can take something from this thread that will influence you positively, then I am fulfilled.

I imagine you'll call an EMT or firefighter if someone robbed you correct?

In NYC the police are a crap shoot. some of them are REALLLLY awesome, and some are just A--Holes.

I know personally, like 3 officers, all nice guys, but i also got abused by a jerkoff horse cop, who gave me a 185$ ticket, for dropping my frind off at work in a "no standing zone" i stopped dude got aout of the car, and i pulled away. I was not blocking traffic, or causing a disturabacne. HE jumped off the curb in front of me and started screaming at me for the liscence and registration. ( my friend mike believes hes just "jealous" of his horse wink wink)

Luckily i know the captain and i got the ticket pulled from the box. ( all tickets go into a box in the police station before they are processed. if you know a cop he can pull the ticket out of the box and its like it never happened)

Saying you hate cops is like saying you hate people from a particular ethnic or religous group, its just over generalizing. I just take people one at a time.

( this is sociology classes coming back)

Its just a question ingroup, outgroup biases.

The cops are a "group" everyone else is a "group". naturally there are going to be prejuduces towards or against them.

Thats how people are unfortunatly.

Ultimately, the fate of the police are in our hands. We vote the Sheriff's into office, and we can take them out. If we are too empathetic or unmotivated to do so, then let the onus fall on us.
