So how did you afford your EX-1/EX-3?

I found an old thread over on the DVX forum that asked the same question about the DVX and found the thread entertaining/informative. So to be fair I'll start off:

I've been putting together a TV pilot idea for a number of years and have been waiting for a good prosumer HD camera to come out so that I could shoot the pilot on it. In retrospect it was kind of a dumb idea but whatever, it's important to my story!

So, fast-forward to July of last year. The EX1 was dead in my sights as the camera I wanted. It served all my purposes, my number one being it had a "true HD" look about it. Had the EX1 not come out I probably would have went with the HVX200a but I never could fall in love with its sub-HD look...although the "mojo" I believe in, LOL.

Anyway I saw a video posted on YouTube that had quite a number of hits and it was idea that I had had for years for my TV pilot. It's only one of a hundred good ideas I have but man the outpouring from the commentors and the number of views it had made me do the math on my finances and I figured "Damn...I can afford this camera by the end of the year and start shooting my pilot next year or sooner." I had to make the decision of an EX1 or a newer car (currently I am rockin' an '89 Mustang).

So...I used my parents' credit card (they're not giving a 24 year old with almost no credit a $7,000 loan) and paid that sucker off in 3 months because besides the jobs that I already had booked with my still photography business the new HD camera brought in more stuff. If only I had bought it earlier last year when I had the chance to videotape Bill Clinton at a rally...

So, there 'ya go. What's YOUR EX1 or EX3 story?

ha, i got fed up at taking 3 days to capture a wedding I shot last year, all 13 tapes of it.
So, i figured I would go tapeless, and if I was going to pony up 5K for a new Sony camera,
I was getting 1/2 chips. I found one used, and bought it. Sold my FX1, still paying it off.
thought about selling it and getting a 2nd hmc 150, but I will probably keep it. Its just too
much camera to let go of, and should serve me well for quite a long time.
