so a plane crashed a few miles from my home...

Yeah I can see that we may be getting into one of those areas where we have to restrict recreation for normal people because of a few psychos.

Yea, they will restrict them to a "Sport License" when they lose that it'll be hang gliders.

Some kid is going to make a bad ass drone that's almost predator worthy in his dads garage, that's a problem, the F*cker will probably be able to fly half way around the word why he is laughing his ass off watching his tv and flying it from a joystick.

That's just a ****ing awful story.

Austin is my favorite city on this planet, and it's not exactly a huge city either. Hope no one I know or any of their family/friends got hurt in this.

Well to him they were the enemy. They were the people that were screwing him (in his mind). Not justifying in any way. It seems he'd taken (in his mind) a couple of decades worth of shi* from the IRS and felt they were responsible for his troubles. Also claims he went through many channels, many meetings, letters, many normal forms of recourse. Talked in his letter about seeking therapy as "the responsible thing to do" having some inkling of how far off the deep end he was slipping because of something to do with buying a piano, then called seeking the therapy a terrible mistake.

If I had to hazard a guess I'm sure the attempt to take others out was part effort to take control back from those people whom he saw as taking complete control over his life, and maybe to "strike some blow" to make a difference.

Again. Not justifying any of it. Let's say he's 100% right on every point. Still not saying it's justified, but I can understand it in a Michael Douglass Falling Down / Stephen Root "Where's my stapler" Office Space kind of way.

I completely understand what you are saying, and I know that you are not saying what he did was okay. I just think it's important to recognize that the rationale of striking back at those that you perceive are taking control of your life in this way (essentially murder or the attempted murder of people who may or may not have anything at all to do with your grievances) is the same rationale used by guys like McVeigh, the people sporting Brown Shirts in Europe a few decades back and the clowns who where the white sheets.

As someone who spends almost everyday of his life fighting an unjust system that marginalizes some of the very people it is designed to serve, I empathize with his pain. I cannot however fathom his actions.

I'm not going to cheer for him, but I believe that the tax system as it's presently constituted is virtually designed to produce occasional consequences like this. I'm not surprised this sort of thing happens; I'm surprised that it doesn't happen more often.

I can understand frustration with the system. I can understand desperation. I can understand feeling an absence of justice. I can understand a belief that we can be unfairly treated.

I can even understand that someone would feel life is not worth living.

I cannot in any way connect that to an attempt to kill a bunch of people that you have never met, who are all facing many of the same struggles you are.

Well said my friend.

Well said.

Respect!

As much as he thought he was dying for a cause, he could have been put to much better use fighting them every day in the public eye. Writing books, creating websites, helping document his case. If our founding fathers suicide bombed the kings castle we wouldn't have the country we have now. Sometimes you've got to stay your ground.

I have a friend who found out his grandparents were in the Hitler youth growing up in Germany, he's a DP so what did he do? He shot a sweet doc on them with a Red and told history the way it needs to be told, as it really was. Good stuff btw.

An interesting aside. I read an article yesterday about the IRS worker who died in the crash. 68, talking about retiring to go back to school to teach kids with learning disabilities. Family man, 2 tours in Viet Nam. His son is outraged that there are people calling the pilot a "patriot".

Can't say I blame him.
