Snowboarding Documnetary

Hey guys, I haven't posted on here in awhile, so I don't know if this is the exact place to post this, my apologies.

I am going to shoot a snowboarding documentary this January, at Telluride Mountain. I don't have a set idea on the meaning of the documentary, or what is the purpose of shooting this all. I am still in the stages of building the idea.

However I wanted to throw this out there to see if anyone who has shot a documentary can give me some tips, maybe some basics of how to shoot this thing properly.

Also, if anyone has ever shot and snowboarding videos, promos, highlights, etc, may you give me some advice on the best way to get the greatest shots. I have basic knowledge of the camera angles and what to shoot, but any extra ideas of thoughts would be fantastic!

Overall as of right now, The story I am leaning on too do is, about 3 good snowboarders, and one filmmaker (aka digital filmmaker), guy set out on a trip not only to snowboard, but to step away from there normals lifes.

Thank you for the help and ideas and spending the time to write back. I can't explain enough how much you all have helped me in building my knowledge of filmmaking. Here's to eveyone, Happy Thanksgiving, and Happy Christmas!

music is key for editing i would start now looking for artists

- takes days to find an artist you like
- takes months to get a response from an artist you like
- takes years to get permission for use of their music

it took me about a year and a half to find an artist i liked that would allow the rights to use their music in a snowboard video and thats just 1 song

the reason it took so long was because of the budget of the video - there basically was none and could not offer any artists anything other then exposure

i would recommend creating a summary of what you want to do with your documentary and send it to artists and snowboard companies/reps for sponsership

the last 2 years i spent being an assistant producer/ editor / filmer/ and rider in a snowboard video that was just released on dvd (just canada based - mostly ontario and BC)

the biggest pains are with sponsership and music - we ended up using alot of local bands for the music because its alot easier for the rights.

and for sponsership start with the people who are hooking up the 3 good riders in your documentary and let them know what is going on every rep has a certain budget to allocate to advertising and stuff like a video featuring their rider.

Good Luck
PM me if you have any specific questions about it that i didnt answer
