Snap zooms on DVX

I would like to do snap zooms with my DVX100a. But I feel resistence in the manual zoom, so I am afraid to push it for fear of stripping something. Is there a way to disengage the servo zoom (I guess that is what it is called). Also, is there a way to make this assignable for quick access back and forth with servo?

do you mean you moving the zoom ring manually with the servo engaged?!! :o .. thats not good. there is a switch on the front of the camera under the lense by the audio switches which engages or disengages the servo drive from the zoom mechanism. you should not operate the zoom manually with the servo engaged.. thats bad news. it is clearly covered in the user manual on page 15.

Right under the lens in the front there is a switch from servo to manual. Just flick da switch.

And, damn, that is one of the most painful areas to get sunburned. Living in Europe, with its lessened body-modesty, has its disadvantages.

You need to take the Zoom out of Automatic and put it in Manual! I do snap zooms all the time! I wish there was a little more resistence though. I mean you barely throw the zoom and boy does it fly!

achris, buy Barry's book! It less boring and you'll learn much more about video and your dvx!

I'm assuming you have an original DVX100? The zoom resistance is one of the changes they made in the DVX100A, and it sure is nice...
