hi friends,

looking into a new quick release system because i cant safetly take the rig off the tripod when the handles and shoulder plate are attached. any recommendations on ones that snap in over head. and are there any risks using those methods?

thanks,

I've always used the standard 577 Manfrotto releases. I probably have 6 or 7 of those on crane, steadicam, rigs, etc.

The issue (for me) with being able to pop a rig on and off to go from tripod to shoulder mount has always been the width of the handgrips. Going to wider grips made it a snap.

I use this with a big broadcast "video" cam and DSLR/BMC style rigs with matte box, FF, etc. No problems at all, and it's such a universal system that even the asians are knocking it off. My loupe and one of my baseplates have the Manfrotto plate machined into the setup. The 577 release has all kinds of mounting holes - I've screwed 'em into ceilings.
