SMPTE Timecode out?

I was just wondering if it was possible to get an smpte timecode out of the dvx to be used in conjunction with a laptop for scene logging applications during shooting...

I've searched around the internet and haven't been able to find any examples of this... would be a great asset to shooting with the dvx if it is possible... perhaps something that comes out of the remote port?

Re: SMPTE Timecode out?

Good news:

Yes there is.

Bad news:

I don't know how! But on the MV shot with Exfilms (Casey and Shawn) Shawn did this exact thing.

Re: SMPTE Timecode out?

Oh well that's just great! Thanks  a lot... :P

Someone will post it on here tho... then you and I can both know :)

Re: SMPTE Timecode out?

It would seem that any laptop capable of DV editing should not only be able to log, but also capture picture and sound...

Re: SMPTE Timecode out?

No no no... i don't mean when capturing video...

I meant that when you're shooting, there are programs that take a timecode entry from the camera at the time of shooting and log the time codes as shots. You don't wanna have a laptop set up to record video with firewire at the time, just the timecode... to make shotlists and notes and view coverage...

Re: SMPTE Timecode out?

Only if that TC is somewhere in the FIREWIRE cable!!!

Might be a good thing, but then again, you would have to have a laptop hooked to the camera! Seems that would be a pain in the ---!!!

We tend to output pix to a monitor with the TC window for the script person to take notes and she gets it from there...putting her notes and numbers directly into a laptop and she is only a few frames off later when we look at the notes.

Re: SMPTE Timecode out?

that's probably the best idea... also seeing as I won't be able to afford a fully registered version of the software...

I'm making a database for it using filemaker pro... should work the same way, but won't be able to enter it automatically, will just have to do it manually...
