SMPTE Bars only in 60Hz?

Can anyone tell me why the AF100 will only output SMPTE colour bars when switch to 60Hz mode?

In 50Hz mode it only gives you 100% bars. Which aren't the great to calibrate monitors with..

Obviously switching between 60 to 50Hz in HD land shouldn't have a different black level (i think) so switching over to calibrate monitors isn't the end of the world.. but still, come on panasonic?

Yeah, this is nothing to do with Panasonic but more to do with the strange world of Broadcast Standards.

It's similar with Final Cut Pro. The full frame 8 vertical colour bars are only available at 25p whereas you have the SMPTE bars available in both.

Here in the UK all broadcast deliverables just have the simpler 8 coloured bars as part of their leader - usually self-generated in the Sony deck.

Hmm, okey maybe SMPTE Bars are NTSC only in Standard def land, but come on, this is an HD camera, give me ARIB bars?!

at the time of creating this topic, it was my zacuto EVF.

100% bars do do the job however, just not quite as quick with such a small monitor.

Also funny to see how different the zacuto evf built in bars are to the bars off the panny via HDMI.

I would be keen to take a look through that viewfinder Joe ...and also to know what you think about it.

So.... are SMPTE color bars necessary to calibrate a Field Monitor? ( Do Field Monitors require accurate calibration by the user or are they calibrated at the factory? ) I too have a 50hz cam, and no SMPTE color bars are generated. Also, not sure how I would go about uploading a jpg of SMPTE color bars to my Panasonic cam. It has an SD slot but it's only used for scene files and metadata.

Thanks David but I did not find that link very useful. You need to log in to watch the videos and the search didn't bring up what I was looking for. It did bring up some interesting articles though.

I tried "Monitor", "SMPTE" , "Calibrate" and none of those keywords got me what I was looking for. The only article that kept coming up is "How to measure your monitor". Also most of the search results are displayed as pdf links unless you're logged in.

Thanks David... for a moment I thought you'd uploaded the actual SMPTE color bars pattern, but I'll check this one out for sure!
In the meantime I did reset my Marshall to its factory defaults, and checked some footage on it... seems to be pretty close to what it should be for the most part.
