Smoothcam or Magic Bullet Steady and Rolling Shutter

I would like to get the best out of handheld shots.

It seems that Smoothcam or Magic Bullet Steady (tried also Motion) conflicts with the GH1 Rolling Shutter. This is of course especially an issue if the scene does not show a lot of motion.

Any ideas to improve?

Don't shake your camera so much. If you're going to do landscape shots you really shouldn't expect a shoulder mount to work, that's not what they're for. You need a tripod for that.

Deshaker for virtual dub has got some rolling shutter correction but I wouldn't expect wonders from it.

Buy or build a DIY stabilizer, practice a lot, then apply smoothcam for that extra steady feel. It will never look as good as a professional stabilizer rig and a professional steadycam operator but you can get a nice smooth feel with practice and the right tools. If you hold this camera in your hand you can forget about getting anything in post to look good. It just won't work. I've tried and there is no saving it. It does wonders having a stabilizer though.

I used the Glidetrack Shooter and did not hold in the GH1 in my hands.

Yes, most of the time I use Decaf :-) but get old and not built like a rock.

Conclusion: I go back using my lovely Miller DS-10 for scenes that have no movements.

Thanks. Was hoping for a magic bullet.

Yeah a tripod for sure on those still shots. It's one of the problems you face with an HDSLR
