JUST SMOKING??? There is a ton of alcohol in that show too, as well as the fact that the cat is trying to KILL the mouse, sometimes trying to stick it in a blender.

But why get rid of it?
 
This move is like the proverbial closing the gate after the horse has escaped. My kids have seen every episode ever made of T & J, including the ones with cigarettes and cigars. Every time, my daughter points out "Smoking's wrong!" or "They shouldnt smoke". It all comes down to the influence that my bride and I make to our kids

NO, they CANNOT have a backbone and simply not air those versions, because then they would be DEPRIVED of the economic gain realized in showing them.

NO, they also CANNOT accept that artistic, aesthetic, and cutural conventions change over time, and allow a work of art * to remain as it was created by the artist(s) who created it. That would require them to make a moral or philosopphical stand on principle and then they might have to borrow a spine so they can defend their decision.

These are the same nimrods who will, rather than not reading an objectionable book, insist that the offending WORDS be removed, never mind that anyone reading/watching, yes EVEN A FIVE YEAR OLD, knows exactly what was happening in the first place.

* (yes, even the lowly cartoon is still, in fact, art. Were it not art, then nobody would still be looking at it today.)
 
Society has gotten so friggin lazy, they depend on TV and school to teach their children right from wrong. And how to make a good decision. Government and corporations are seeing that and pulling this crap. If you want to go that far, then pull that whole scene out along with the cigarette tom rolls.

Yeh...Tom and Jerry ruined my life. I was four years old when I first watched T&J and I remember, right after the show going down to the corner store and buying my first pack of smokes cos I so wanted to be like Tom. Upon my return home I put my cat in the blender before he got to my pet mouse. When they let me out of reformed school, I never watched cartoons again.

Uproar from the Latino community. I can see their argument to a degree, but I never found the cartoons to be degrading. It was a mouse for crying out loud. But political correctnees has this planet on it's ear. People seem to go out of their way to be offended.

Personally, I cant think of a nationality that hasn't been "degraded" by cartoons to some degree. Each and every one has at times.

Shame too, because Warner Brothers cartoons had the most incredible characters. Mel Blanc was a genius. I once read he had over 500 characters he did, any immediatly ready for use at a moments notice. The man had talent.
