Smokin' Aces

Wow. I'm surprised people have hated this so much. I mean it wasn't good necessarily, but I've seen far worse films. I'm curious as to what people were expecting from this film. Everyone is of course entitled to their own opinion, but I feel like people's expectations were very high, without warrant. I could have told you from the trailer the movie would be little more than a gore fest with a bunch of guns and explosions... and I definetly recieved what I expected in that sense.

Just curious why everyone seems to have had such high expectations...

I *hated* it too... It's easily the most 'over-written' film I've ever sat through.

Bateman was awesome though :)

So, after reading Carnahan's comments on his site... I went to see it for a second time to pick up on all the stuff he mentioned you'd realize during a second viewing.

SPOILER -

The only thing I really picked up on was that there was no hit. Everyone was there for his heart. (I think). The Tremors don't seem capable of doing that, so they may have thought it was a hit.

Spoiler End.

I do still think it has some excellent excitement during it's action scenes, and it is cleverly cut together. Some of the cross cuts were maybe a little cheesy, but others worked great easing into the next scene. I really liked the score. It did a great job of amping up every moment, and had a catchy beat too. The bass of the big gun rocking through the theater was also a treat.

Though I still didn't like how it ended I am part of the minority that likes the film and will for sure add it to my dvd collection when it comes out!

Anyone know the budget for it?? IMDB didn't have it listed.

I think Carnahan is a talented director. Ive read about the horror stories that went on while trying to make NARC, and ever since seeing that movie I promised myself to see every flick this guy will make. Gonna see Smokin Aces tonight!!! w00t!!!

I like the movie as well. I haven't read through all the posts yet. I wasn't expecting oscar material. In fact all I wanted was to watch the mayhem when everyone came together. The rest of the movie was worth the setup to me.

I saw the movie last night, it was disappointing for me. It was fun and exciting to a point then it all fell apart in the third act. I didn't care for any of the characters, why would I care who dies and who does what's morally correct??

The ending is so ridiculous, so many plot holes. Just bad from start to finish and can anyone explain the point of the 'little karate Kid' scene?

I guess the point of the film is we sacrificed our own men for our own selfish reasons.. blah blah blah comment on the war on Iraq.. garbage.
Don't waste your money seeing it at a theatre, I do say rent it at least.
