Smokin' Aces

wow this movie was lame. i was hoping for mor and it was a blazing disaster of missmatching story undevelopment and lack of key elements. i dudn tthingk this would happen... biggest dissappoint.

this movie was a huge let down, the trailer is better then the movie by a long shot, the movie started good but started Fu**ing up and picking up speed, yep that was the best part of the movie, this director wont be working in a long time, what I think killed the movie was the bad sequence of the movie and poor directing, the action scenes are like 30 minutes in between them, just horrible, I was expecting so much now I want my money back!!!!!

i kinda liked the film. the action scenes were good when they were there, and i actually enjoyed Ryan Reynolds' performance. piven was good, and so was Liotta, and i laughed my ass of at that karate kid... it wasnt what i expected it to be, but enjoyable IMO none the less.

For the most part i really liked it and really got into it... but I found the way it ended to be a letdown.

I guess I felt like there was going to be another fight sequence or big moment other than just an "explaination".

I did really like how we had no idea what was going on and more importantly who was going to last as it was set off so nicely by that first unexpected event by the water.

SPOILERS BELOW

I thought Reynolds was going to the hospital to finish LaCosta or whatever the fingertip eater guy was... that would have be a cool end of the movie in my opinion, to get the guy who got his partner... I cared little for the plot twist which was obvious from the start of the movie then reinforced when they were looking over Sparrazas records noting how many surgery's he'd had.

ii mean i enjoyed it but i was dissappoint beyond belief and yes reynolds was great in this.

I don't know why this director is in bussiness after this movie, I already spread the word bad here in tx to all my people to not waste their money on this garbage. the director concentrated more on the trailer then the actual movie, maybe he directed the trailer and thats it :)

where you like something but it never didnt go to your expectations.

That for me was A History of Violence. I totally get what you mean.

I wasn't dissapointed beyond belief by Smokin Aces, but the adrenline rush I excepted to happen was a lot less than the trailers and buzz for the film advertised.

Hey Zak - were you doing the filming of the stuff on Smoking Joe Carnahan.com? If so, what shirt, or what movie was the shirt for that he burned??

Apparently you don't like the film. We get it. IF you've never done so, check out NARC. Carnahan has a lot of talent. Plus, he is considered one of the best crime writers in Hollywood. Both he and his brother have numerous scripts that have either been made into movies already, or have been optioned.

This particular movie is obviously genre oriented as in if over the top shoot em ups aren't your thing than this movie isn't your thing. I personally feel he showed excellent skill with the action/violence we got in the film, and showed great storytelling ability by building up to the one big sequence we got in the film. I was as I mentioned before, dissappointed that it didn't continue from there. I felt like there was a third act missing from the film.

It's not like this is a Uwe Boll film. If you like action flicks with Tarantino-esque dialogue and situations, then you may enjoy this film. But in my opinion there are far worse offenders that deserve people "spreading the word" about how crappy they are than this film.

ok give me an example more or less about the same storyline of smokin aces that you consider was done wrong, like I trully know this one was

I don't understand this sentence.

I won't get into a big debate as it's a waste of time. It's everyone's right to like or dislike anything they see.

All I'm saying is that I personally feel that making a statement along the lines of "this director should never work again because of this film" seems a tad excessive. I want guys like Carnahan to continue working because they aren't puppets of the studios. I read his replies to peoples questions at smokinjoecarnahan.com, and he seems like he "gets it". He seems like a genuine down to earth person with a passion for making cool films. Now he may have missed the mark in your opinion on this film, but I bet there are a bunch of people who will love this film too(wait til teenage guys get their hands on this on dvd and I bet it becomes a huge hit like Boondock Saints became).

I say save campaign's for "never direct again" when a guy makes several complete duds in a row ala Uwe Boll or Paul WS... but this is merely my opinion and you reserve the right to do whatever you like.

i love narc just not this it was a miss but he had the elements good moments but lacked thats all.

ok yeah it was a blod statment on my part let me tell you why I dont like this film,

"spoilers below"

I really dont blame the director, he did his job, I think it was the marketing, they have a list of star power in the trailer ok, so ben affleck is of course at the very top and guess what he gets killed within the first 5 minutes of the film, that is BS... so one of two things happend, either they could not come up with enough dough for afffleck to do a whole movie or it was a marketing strategy to trick people into watching this film and thinking that affleck comes out the whole film, I personally dont think very highly of affleck either but that is besides the point, so anyway that is my main problem.. the BS that the trailer
portaits, now my other problem is that a lot of people, including some on this site, cant find the thread but people were saying that this was going to be the next snatch...american version... ohh my God they are way way way offff
such comparasion is retarded, snatch is an art work compared to this, and I know a lot of people are with me on this one, just ask anyone who has seen both films, so to sum it up, no I didnt like the film, the directing in nothing more than casual, the story is weak, the acting is trivial, so what does this movie have going for itself? I really dont know

the shirt belonged to a gaffer named mike bauman. mike and the dp, mauro fiore, both worked on the island. and both have declared they will never work with or for michael bay again. joe obviously shares in their distaste for michael bay. this explains the "opening weekend" joke.

You know what my only reservation about going out to see this is? The Star Power.

I don't know why, but I feel like the Star power might knock it down a notch. Like it's trying to be another Ocean's Twelve, which by the way has scared me clean away from the Ocean's franchise.

Are you sure the steaming pile of Cleveland poo that is Ocean's 12 didn't scare you away from that franchise? If I saw that pile on the street I wouldn't even debase my pooper scooper to pick it up.

Saw it today. To be honest, I had kinda low expectations going in. Ive never seen Narc, but I caught part of it on commercial TV last week and I was digging the style, so I had slightly more hope for SA than I previously had.

That said, I enjoyed it. I went in expecting an entertaining action film, and on that level, I thought it was great. It was a fun ride, and I never felt bored. Of course, it's not going to be winning any awards, but not every film needs to.

I thought that for what it was, it did a pretty good job. Admittedly, some of the story was kind of convoluted/confusing/unnecessary, but not enough so to ruin it for me. Good performances by Piven, Reynolds, Liotta, and I actually was impressed by Common. That scene between him and Piven when they're in the bathroom was great.
