smashed my dvx in a skiing accident

I am making a film about the founder of Mammoth Mountain in California and was following a guy off a jump. I took a tumble and literally rammed the dvx 100A, lens-first into the hard snow and then to add insult to injury, I fell on top of it as well. There is not a scratch on the camera but it no longer works. It makes pitiful moaning sounds, has a picture in the viewfinder, but won't record. I have taken it to two local repair centers. One place quoted me $1200 to replace the lens and optical block, the other place said, send it to Panasonic.

Does anyone have any opinions about sending the camera to Panasonic? Is it worth even trying? Are there any other good options in the Southern California area?

Thanks,

Hey man my recommendation is to call up a shop located in Massachussetts called Video Electronics. This shop is top notch. They have repaired two of my cameras. a VX1000, and VX2000. Saved me over 2000 dollars in repairs by using them instead of other local shops/ sending in to Sony. They have been been servicing all types of video cameras for over 20 years now. The guy working there that does the video camera repairs is Kerry. Ask for him and he can help you out with your problem. They offer a free estimate when you send it in. Their number is: 978-664-9992
I hope this helps you out as I know how it feels to have broken equipment :(

Where in Mass is it? I know it's in central mass but what town?

According to the reverse phone number lookup on anywho.com, it's in North Reading. If North Reading is anywhere near Reading (not a safe assumption in Massachusetts), then it is near Boston.

They they are top notch..My friend dropped his dvx off his motorcycle and they had it fixed in no time. He is in Texas and just mailed it to them and the repair was way faster than sending to panasonic..
