SmallHD DP6: SDI or HDMI version for FS700

I was thinking about picking up a SmallHD DP 6 for my FS700

The DP 6 comes in 2 versions 1) SDI + HDMI version, or 2) HDMI only version.

Obviously, the SDI version is more expensive by about $250. Since I have the FS700, do you guys think it's worth the extra money for the SDI version?

I have 2 questions

1) I've read on another thread that the SDI has NOT been enabled yet on the FS700, and won't be until a future firmware upgrade. So would the SDI version of the DP6 even work with the FS700 at this point? Or is it HDMI only right now.

2) Anyone using the DP6 on the FS700? What are your thoughts?

Thanks for any guidance.

I bought the HDMI Dp6

Tight wad error - if you were in the UK Id do you deal to swap

Doesnt work with my EX1, wont work with future or rental BMC, or wont maximise C300 rental

Im sure the SDi version has HDMI too?

The SDI works fine for monitoring on the 700, the only thing that hasn't been enabled is the 4K RAW output over that same port.

If you can afford it, I'd recommend the SDI+HDMI version... It's a more common, more professional interface, with a much simpler, more robust connector that's less likely to get knocked out. Really no contest which one I'd rather use/trust on set. And if you plan to move up the camera food chain, you'll find SDI much more often than HDMI, so it's a more future-proof purchase.

Never used one with a 700 but I'd recommend the SDI version. I have the HDMI version and I lose connection a lot and its extremley irritating.

Having used both HDMI and a lot more SDI, I can definitely report that SDI is a much more rugged connection, they don't pull out. I have 3 HDMI cables go bad over the last 2 years and 1 bad SDI cable over the last 10 or more and that was a long one that got pinched in a doorway.

SDI cables are easy to make yourself (you need the strip and crimp tools) and the connection is really solid, but if you make them yourself or order them custom, not very expensive, you can have the exact length you need, this is very nice. It is a more professional connection and protocol that carries time code as well as audio and video. There are some HDMI implementations with TC but it is not standard.

I've been using hdmi and sdi with the alphatron evf and fs700. At the moment I cannot do 1080p50 with sdi. I have to change to 1080i50.
Hdmi 1080p50 no problems.
Having said that. I've been skiing backwards at high speed with the rig, and I'm using sdi in 1080i as it will not come off.
Had a short lightweight sdi cable made up, and some heavier spares.
Works great. Need the hdmi tho for my dslr
Im waiting for the dp7. Dp6, get both. You won't regret it. I think it will outlast my next camera change. If it doesn't, sell it to someone who will prob have a dslr hdmi only

Never used one with a 700 but I'd recommend the SDI version.

I also have never used the SmallHD with the 700, but I do have the SDI version and I love it. I have an HPX-170, and the DP6 is far superior to the onboard LCD, but if I had gotten the HDMI version, I wouldn't be able to pair the two. Having the SDI version means I can use the DP6 with any camera, and that means a lot to me. Plus, I use SDI whenever I possibly can, give how superior the connection is.
