SmallHD DP4-EVF // Apple iMac // Canon EF 17-40mm L

One of those boring "help me justify which I should get" posts. But I do need help, and there are dilemmas for each.

SmallHD DP4-EVF - I've been wanting a monitor for some time. I've been using my Macbook Pro for shoots, however this isnt handy, carrying a £2000 laptop around.

Apple iMac - I edit off my Macbook Pro with a Monitor, however, though usable, I've killed my battery, as its in constant use. Lucky to get 5 hours out of it when not on charge.

Canon EF 17-40mm L - I've been eyeing this lens for some time. I currently own the Canon 50mm 1.4 and the Canon 18-135mm. I was going to sell the 18-135mm for the 17-40.

Heres my dilemma;

Buying the External Monitor means I dont have to hulk my Mac around, however it means that I wear my battery down ever more on my Mac. If I get the iMac, it means I still use my Macbook Pro as a monitor, however, I have a "dedicated" workstation. Finally, getting the EF Lens means that hopefully my images are sharper with nicer glass, however, I would still be left without a monitor etc.

I was looking at the Carl Ziess 50mm 1.4 - However I havent read rave reviews compared to the Canon 50mm 1.4

Help?!?

I just want you to do me one favor, and that is sit down and really think about what is the most efficient upgrade. What serves you the most, what would make this process faster and easier for you. This subject is very personal, depending on every mans need which differs a lot.

I could at least inform you about the Zeiss as being experienced with both the Canon EF 50mm 1.4 and the Carl Zeiss for short videos and commercials I don't think the Zeiss 50mm would make your work or productions any better at all. Sure, the Zeiss is incredibly much better and sharper than the Canon lens, but to answer your urgencies I believe the SmallHD is one excellent choice(set up time, reliability and accessibility).

I have sat down, and Im still in this dilemma. Hence why Im here. Im struggling. As I said in my post, each has their pros and cons, so Im really struggling.
