Im planning on buying a decent monitor to go with my bmcc. Please share your experiences and suggestions regarding smallhd ac7 and Ikan d7w and explain your reasoning behind your pick.

The Ikan D7W is very nice... I bought it for the waveform graph, which works very well. I had to take a scalpel to the NP-F battery adapter to make the batteries fit, but apart from that, it's great.

Atticus, question about your D7W. Does the signal pass thru from one input to the other output? Meaning if you go HDMI in does it send the signal out the SDI, and vice versa?

Sprry I sent it back. I wasn't a fond of it. I got the dp6 Sdi version and I love it!!!

What did you not care for about the D7W? Is the picture on the DP6 so much better that is better than having waveform?

I felt like waveform is nice but dp6's pros are way more than its cons (no waveform, rgb parade, etc) It boots in no time. focus assist is really cool. Picture quality is better. GREAT sunhood. Built like a TANK. Easy to navigate/ user friendly. And I can go on and on.

If you don't need the waveform I just picked this one up $349 including shipping

Amazing price and the image quality is gorgeous. I got the HDMI version. IKAN rebrands this monitor as the VX7i ; http://ikancorp.com/productdetail.php?id=564

Right now the best res panels in the 7" range is 1280 x 800 and this monitor gets you there for $350. That is unbelievable, I am thinking of getting a second unit. If you require a waveform you might want to consider the Marshall 9"

It's a pig on batteries but it's big and well featured. It doesen't have RGB parade though.

Good luck in your search

SmallHD6 images is just ok -colors are ALWAYS on the warm side so yo can never use the monitor to fully judge.
And the sunshade is horrendous to attach to the monitor - so much so that i'm selling mine if interested (used only twice) for $40.

Would i buy SmallHD6 again - i don't know - i would have to research all the options out there again.

I think the sunshade for the dp6 is absolutely fantastic in every way. One of the best features in my opinion.

Do you have a link to the seller? I couldn't find one on Neway's website.

Not sure what you mean by no business front. Google 'Neway Monitors' and the web site comes up top of the search and is in three languages. http://www.newaye.com.

They haven't at all seemed like a sketchy company. They've been good to deal with and every email I sent has been replied to in a timely fashion. I haven't tried contacting them by phone because i like my communications to be recorded. In the event of things going wrong, there's at least a paper trail. They accept Paypal so some buyer assurance is provided.

On warranty, 12 months warranty is described on Neway's literature although for obvious reasons I hope I don't have to draw on that service.

I looked long and hard and, bang for buck, these were the best value monitors I could find anywhere.

I bought the monitor through an offer on personalviews.com which I found confusing as hell to navigate. I will admit that even though Newway had the website the whole process did seem a tad sketchy to me...but it all worked out fine and it's a very good monitor. The price is positively unbeatable in this product class.

Sorry I didn't respond to your post inversek, I just saw it today. PM me next time, glad you figured out how to pick one up. Let me know what you think when you get it, cheers.

I just bought the HDMI verison of the AC7 two weeks ago and I absolutely love it. Not to mention SmallHD has the best customer service ever. I splurged and purchased a few extras with mine so it ended up being about $850 but it's still tooootally worth the money. I got the monitor, panasonic battery plate, acrylic screen protector, hot shoe mount, neoprene sleeve and sun hood. here is a link to the thread I started when I bought it.

I am monitor shopping also and am very much leaning towards the Ikan D7W. I really want the WFM, Vectorscope and RGB parade, and the Ikan D7W is the least expensive one that I can find that has the full screen scopes and I want that (My eyes are getting old!!).

Here is a link to a review of the D7W. Like always, I would take these reviews with a grain of salt, but it does look like a good monitor, for the price.

Old eyes? Me too - those drug store reading glasses are my favorite cheap accessory. They make focusing way easier, and setting little switches in the dark, looking for stuff in your bags - awesome. I even wear 'em on the string around my neck like a for-real old dude! I've got about six pairs scattered around my camera bags - amazon sells three-packs for about $12.

They're basically magnifying glasses you don't have to hold in front of your face, but they have a longer "throw" - for me they focus from 5" to about 14". Killer things to have, esp. for focusing on a small LCD.

Already way ahead of you on that Michael. I keep spares of those glasses with me at all times! Though I have been hesitant to go for the neck chain thingy.... I go for the professorial glasses on forehead look! That is why I find the full screen scopes so attractive. Those little ones in the corners of the monitor just ain't gonna cut it for me.
