SmallHD 502 Sunhood Alternative?

Hey guys!

I've been using my beloved SmallHD 502 with my A7sII, and I have finally had it with not being able to easily see what I am shooting outside on sunny days. I've tried using the SmallHD sunhood, and not only is it overpriced at $60, but it breaks incredibly easy. I was wondering if you guys knew of an alternative sunhood that you might be using with your 502? I don't even care if it's a cheap eBay knockoff, since it's just a sunhood.

I'd say build one...the Marshall one not sure it fits...

BTW I'm with you on this, the sunhood is too fragile AND cumbersome
 
Ha Erik you're right but the problem is the bulk and weight of the 702 in some rigs!

I have the 702 lite which is great but quite big!

Time for a 502 bright??? ;)
 
Lots of people here think my rigs are crazy.. (everything I make looks like a Trabant but drives like a Rolls Royce)

Anyway I got a 3mm plywood box lasercut for my 502.. it has lived on it (not easy to remove) for the last 2 years.

I also have a neoprene 'sock' that goes over this box and extend a few more inches to enable full light exclusion in extreme bright circumstance.

Its black on the inside and I should paint the outside 'sometime' for smartness.

You can see it here (not on the FS7 but on a Ronin test configuration)

On the side you cannot see is a 2.5 pin input that runs off Dtap via a dummy battery .. so my monitor runs off any 2.5m to dtap cable just like my DP1 and DP6.

Well I wonder who SmallHD descend from?

What is the basic design spec of a monitor.. 'to be able to see it' maybe?

It is tragic that I have to mend products that come out untested from a factory gate, a factory recently aquired by the biggest video brand in the world.. Vitec

We see it all the time from companies. I think they want to profit as soon as possible and have a "fix it later" with version 2.0 mentality. And sometimes they never fix it.
