FS7: SmallHD 502 Monitor Power Solution?

Hey guys,

I'm just wondering, is there a way to power the 502 through the FS7 without a v-lock system? I know its obviously powered by Canon LPE6 batteries, but that just makes an extra expense, but most of all, as a wedding shooter, it will make life harder having to keep even more batteries charged while i'm shooting rather than just keeping the monitor on for the whole night.

Thanks!!

Why is it so difficult to have a power port instead of having to use some extra battery adapter.
That battery adapter is quite cumbersome looking, all that stuff kills the size advantage. This I why I'm not buying this monitor. Just more crap to deal with. The 502 would have been nice and light, no battery plate, no adapter, just a thin cable to p-tap.

Before getting a dummy battery it is important to check the location of the wire fouling the monitor.

I had to modify my HW dummy batt.

Jason - the 502 takes 8v so running off a vlock straight would not work.

It is not necessarily difficult, but it does add size, cost and extra components not just in adding a connector but in adding power regulation within the device.

This is why the Odyssey monitor/recorders were designed to run off power from 6.5v all the way up to 34v. It certainly adds to the complexity of the unit, making it more expensive to build. I guess that was their reasoning.

I'm going to guess the little Sony batteries barely have enough poop to power the camera and lens system to be able to also power monitors and the like.
One of the reasons I have the extension unit is so I can use big boy batteries with D-tap outs. I then have a multi D-tap connector I Velcro to the top of the extension and run ancillaries like my Odyssey, which also serves as my monitor and a light if need be. The extension has a Hirose DC out which drives my Zaxcom.
The trade off is now my camera weighs just a few pounds less than my F-800.
Price you pay freedom.
