Smallest moving GG solution yet???

is there a photo of the flip module?

and what exactly is the purpose of the switch on it? Runs on batteries for what?

No photo of the flip...it exists in the CAD world only. This is not a static adapter...you need power to oscillate the diffuser. Many smarter than me have given up on static adapters, including Dan (MPIC), M2 folks, G35 folks etc. etc.

How many batteries do you need? Is there anything that indicates when the batteries are running out? Because there is no way to know it and if you're shooting and it starts going slower and slower without you notesting it might damage the footage.

Rawfa, the cells being used are far more efficient than your average alkaline battery. Confidence testing has shown a + 20 hour continuous runtime on one charge. The LED dims as the battery voltage drops.

With the charge time being 1.2 hours, you should never have a problem. If you are in a situation actually requiring 20 hours straight runtime, the batteries can be charged with the unit running..meaning the charger will serve as an AC adapter. A full charge then would take about 1.5 hours.

Wait, so there's no batteries? You have to plug it to charge it? This could be a problem because the voltage is different here (as it is in many other countries outside north america). This is something I really need to know before getting one of these babies.

Aren't there adapters you can buy?

Yes there are...however the charge unit has auto switching input voltage from 90 to 260V AC, 50 or 60Hz. It's made for world consumption. (Europe, Australia, etc.) Also, because I'm providing an external charge port, you could potentially build yourself a monster lead acid battery at 2.4 volts and run this thing forever like that. Same thing applies if you'd prefer to use your own batteries in an external pack, adapt power from your camera battery (reduced to 2.4V) etc.

Technically, in good light at F1.4, you don't even need the motor running.

So, not to worry guys...a great deal of research has gone into these. I have another surprise for the production model, but I'm keeping that one under my hat.

I posted a clip of some crane/jib tomfoolery with the adapter.

You da man, D! ;-)

Wow, dying to see some HVX or even DVX footy with this sucker.

Have you thought about putting it into the shootout?

Guskers, not too important, but for the future:

Do you know if there woudl be a way to make your adapter would work with an anamorphic adapter?

The reason I ask is because I plan on getting the andromeda mod within a few months for the feature I plan on filming this summer that I've been in preproduction for 2+ years. With an anamorphic adapter, the footage from andromeda is almost 1080p....and you have no idea how exstatic I'd be if I could get almost 1080p and uprez slighlty instead of having to downrez and crop to 720p ;)

I'm guessing there's no way to make this work and that I'd have to use anamorphic lenses which are far beyond my price range, but I figured I'd ask :)

Rook, I've lost track of the shootout dates, but I'm thinking it's too late isn't it? I'd love to have the Brevis in there, but I seem to recall the requirement being "a production model". Those should be ready in about 3 weeks. I'm all over it if I can meet the dates.

Virum, I just tried my .66 wide angle lens (for the GS400) on the front of my 50mm F1.4 lens. I don't have a 55-43 stepdown ring, but holding it in front, I was able to determine that it works just fine. The focus marks on the lens change however so that an object 5 feet away must be adjusted to 10 ft on the focus ring to remain in focus.

You have the ability to quickly adjust the flange to GG distance on the Brevis35, so I tried that...and guess what? I was able to bring the focus marks back into alignment with the WA by decreasing flange to GG distance. Being that an anomorphic adapter is basically an anamorphic WA, I'd say things look pretty promising. You would need to make sure that your 35mm lens threads do not rotate during focus. My 50mm doesn't, but my 28-70 and 28-130 do. This is definitely worth trying out! That would be one interesting setup...and one huge set of rails.

I seem to recall close focus issues with the Century anamorphic. A 35mm adapter is a bit unique in that you can actually mess with flange to GG distance...the equivalent of being able to adjust your video camera's rear element to CCD distance.

Glad you liked the footage...I need to do it again in a studio.

Well...it seems it could definitely work.... That's interesting. I think the Century Optics one is 72 mm, so would I have to get a step-up; step-down ring to put it on the 35mm lenses I have?

I remember reading that focusing can be a problem with the adapter... (don't know why, would being able to adjust the flange distance "fix" this?).

I have to get one. What is the price of the second wave release? I guess you arent going to make them cheap much longer. But remember, you are competing with the well known redrock company. Any higher than 700 or so will teeter the line of just chosing one or the other.

I would like to be on some kind of list. If i have to be on second wave/higher price so be it. But id like to know when that would be and how much so i can set a timeline for my funds...

hmmm What do you think of that, Guskers?

I wish there was a way to put an anamorphic lens in front of the adapter and focus so that the image on the GG gets squeezed right before it goes through the camera; that's make things tons simpler.

Edit: After doing more reading, it seems that unless I shell out the money to have a custom piece of glass made for me, it's not possible to get anamorphic with the 35mm adapter....

Dennis, the filter diameter on the adapter is 58m, right? The reason I'm asking is so that I can look for a 72mm-58mm step down ring for the FX1.

Steve, 3 weeks is the projected shipping date for the beta group.

Chris, there will be an order process implemented as soon as I scare up a new web host. All things considered, the final unit will probably be priced in the $700 US range.

Virum, Barry's the man when it comes to the DVX, and vignetting on a 72mm adapter would almost certainly be one of the issues. I'd still chat with Century on this one though.

Rawfa, originally I had spec'd 72mm for mount sizes, but the CNC folks recommended a simpler rotating mount system that I originally had in CAD. At this point, 58mm is the size on the table. This will ensure that the FX1 users (and other cams with longer min. focus distance will be able to easily source 1 inch spacer tubes (without step up/down rings) if they require them.

No problemo. The M2 and the G35 are 58mm too. The M2 aparently requires a spacer tube for some cameras (the FX1 being one of them). Will the Brevis35 require a spacer tube too for the FX1?
