Just got a GoPro 4 and wish to get a tripod and head for it. So, when you guys are not cliff diving, snowboarding or driving 100+ mph, what do you use to hold the camera steady, on the ground for like time lapse kind of stuff. Thanks!

Do you actually pan panning? If not then I would recommend a ball head as apposed to a video head. You could use a very cheap lightstand (sandbag when needed). This way you can get the gopro nice and high when needed. Here are a few options for various support accessories:

Nano Clamp (manfrotto and generic)

Mini Ballhead (the second one holds more weight but the first will support a gopro)

Tall light stand (remember, with the nano clamp you can mount it anywhere on the light stand)

Short light stand

I've been using this little clamp/arm/ballhead with GoPros since the first model. It'll clamp anywhere, and if balanced right can even free-stand on a flat surface. Price isn't bad, either - I think I picked mine up at a Wal-Mart for $10

Also occasionally use the ol' Gorillapod. Small ones work fine with the GoPro.

...and if there will be plenty of large, flat surfaces...
