I need a small lightweight (if possible) 15mm rod and plate combo for the GH3. Just so I can mount a monitor arm.

I am not using follow focus though I own one.

I own quite a few Manfroto QR plates already (501). Any recommends?

ikan doesnt get a lot of respect (primarily because their IT department makes a lot of their marketing decisions)
but i REALLY enjoy a number of their rig products.

look at both their "EV series" and "original elements" sections. i've used just about all that stuff in one way or another. and depending on the specific application, it's as useful as things costing several times more.

Well that's 9 days... I leave in 10. I did contact them and they could only tell me 10 to 14 days. The shipping is expensive as well - regular mail is $27 for that plate. I just ordered a 'super-clamp' on ebay so I can attach my field monitor to my tripod instead of the camera rig. This may work temporarily for my trip. I have go super-lightweight to India for a quick shoot.

I have this one myself. The height adjustment on this baseplate is good because you can access the battery without removing the camera from the baseplate.

Hadn't considered the battery factor.

What length "Vertical Posts" did you get?

And which model GH are you using?

Thanks,
Bern

I have a GH2 and recently a GH3. I have 2.5" posts. I think the 2" would be not quite tall enough for the door to fully open. The height might be needed too if you use a lens that needs a support (eg Oly 35-100 with the Zacutto support).

The battery grip door is not on the base but on the side of the grip - so this would be accessible but not the camera battery which is covered by the grip anyway.

Spoke with Brian Berkey about what length posts are needed to match up with standard height matte boxes, etc, & he also recommended the 2.5".
