GH5 Small noise test for the GH5 using the V-Log L profile

What portion of the frame are we looking at ? Is that the full m4/3 GH5 frame ?

The green shift is without Resolve noise-reduction and the magenta shift is with Resolve noise-reduction ?

It is the full 16:9 frame, all clips are noise reduced, the shift is apparently due to the sharpness setting!

I tried downloading your S -5 N -5 video and I'm not sure what to make of it as it appears that your footage is drastically under-exposed, so I don't see how this would ever compare to properly exposed V-Log L footage.

A more meaningful test for me would be to shoot at a higher ISO and then try to minimize noise without having to amplify things to bring out the background noise.

i.e. lets see how things are with proper V-Log L exposure and either magnify the image or use a higher ISO setting to bring out the image noise

If you have a scene with a lot of contrast you cannot expose properly for all parts, some parts will have to be under exposed. A camera with a low dynamic range and bad latitude will have more problems rendering the underexposed and overexposed parts.

By using underexposed footage we can see the GH5's latitude and noise levels for various noise and sharpness settings and what can be recovered in camera and in post.

But if they are severely under-exposed I would expect those parts of the image will essentially display as black or crushed-blacks depending on the grade.

I personally don't care about noise in severely under-exposed sections of the image, but rather the noise that I can see in mid to lower range sections of the image that are not "black".

I know that this camera has 12 F-stops of dynamic-range, and I also know that there is pretty much nothing beyond these 12 F-stops that can be fixed in post. So I have to expose for the DR that is usable, and sacrifice whatever is outside the 12 F-Stop DR range. ( or you can light your subject to lower the contrast range or switch to a camera with significantly more DR range like a Varicam LT )
