small lcd monitor for my 170

My camera needs a new friend. I'm looking for a small lcd monitor for my 170, preferably with a high def component and good resolution, maybe 720p? Hdsdi is too expensive.

I hear alot about the Marshall monitors: www.lcdracks.com. They just seem like the resolution is kinda low except for the expensive ones. Why are they all plastic?

but there's also a few new companies around. The cheapest one I found was www.hannahdigital.com. It look like it will be pretty good for the money and it has good resolution. It's only 5.6 inches and 720p.

Ive seen the small hd while browsing too. It looks nice but is 200 dollars more than the Hannahdigital one. But its still cheaper than the Marshall.

The new ones are much cheaper and look like they have alot better features. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thank you - Blair

No comment on the Hannah Digital one since it's not out yet, but you also need to consider power option for every monitor. The Hannah uses IDX or AB battery which can be an expensive investment (or 4 pin XLR in which case the cheapest way to go would be a battery belt which can be cumbersome). The SmallHD has a compact custom battery which isn't that large to carry around. Something else to look at is the Manhattan LCD. I believe they have an upcoming 7'' model if you're looking for something small and light, or their current 8.9'' models range from 576p to 720p native that's a bit heavier.

I will have to check out Manhattan. I've heard mixed reviews on the smallhd monitor. How are the manhattans rated?

Edit - I looked at Manhattans website. They look decent, but I think I may wait and see what this Hannah company does. Cool website, looks like they have not finished it yet though. The monitor seems like a good size - the Manhattan looks a little big to put on top of the camera. And it's not too far off for the til you can order them. If I get one of those, I would try to be one of the first to get them, but hopefully they have some pictures or videos or reviews or something before then.

I just received my V-LCD70P-3GSDI from Marshall. Well worth the wait. Resolution
looks great. Has some really nice features like peaking, false color, which really
helps with exposure and focus.

It's also very light weight for hand held and it runs off the same batteries as my HPX-170.

I checked out the Manhattan but the portability of the monitor really didn't fit my needs.

Everyone has different priorities...

That's a nice monitor, but it's more than twice the price! I can't afford $1300. I still think I'm going to wait. Plus the resolution is only 800 by 480. Not really a high def display.

We are working on smaller options and custom battery options will be available. At some point, we will integrate our own series of batteries as an option.

Keep in mind too, some cameras have a DC out that will be able to power the monitor, or it can run off 12 volt D-Taps.
