Small HD DP7 Pro or Convergent Design Odyssey 7 for Canon 1DC???

Also is there a remote control available for the Odyssey? So that for instance when you are shooting on a very long lens you can change monitor display modes and check out your image without risking making your footage wobbly?

Dear Chris,

I missed this thread while I was traveling, so I am sorry for the very late replies.

Yes, we will offer, for free, a iPhone/iPad app for controlling our unit. We will also add an Android App.

And we will support wired remote controls.

dumb question. is there a portable battery solution on Odyssey ? if not then it only going to make your 1DC rig bigger as you need a AB battery !

Dear Shawn,

This is not a dumb question at all.

We have just modified our design to support a voltage range of 6.5 to 34 volts.

We did this so we could support, natively, the 7.2/7.4 volt camera batteries as well as the professional 14.4V and 28/30 volt batteries. !2 volt batteries are also supported.

There will be various battery plates available.

And we offer a 14.4 volt battery (small, lightweight with many hours of run time).

Respectfully,

We find this external viewfinder works great with our 1Dc

Having just worked with 1DC for a week on two commercials I would mention that an external viewfinder offers several advantages over a monitor when using a 1DC. Shooting outside both focus and exposure can be difficult to adjust quickly with a monitor. It all depends on the style of shooting. I have been considering the Kinotehnik for my C100 and any DSLR style camera that I own and rent.

The disadvantage is that you must power the viewfinder and run cables but you must do this with a monitor as well. Since I cannot purchase an Odyssey 7 and very few people have actual touched or used one, it does not enter into my consideration until it is actually on the market. I would also caution prospective buyers considering any new product to purchase with only existing features considered, as many companies never develop/deliver on "future features".

With that said I thing that the Odyssey 7/7Q aare going to be valuable products to help with video assist and workflow.
