Small HD 4" EVF - any negatives?

I use a piece of black cloth and gaff tape to keep the EVF shielded from the sun when my eye is not pressed up against it.

Last summer I found a simple solution to keeping sun out of the viewfinder when you are not behind the camera. (see photos) An Eye patch, cost a couple bucks at local drug store. I'm not sure if it will fit all finders. I loop the elastic through the handle and around the strap mount. It works so well I went back and bought a couple more incase i lost one. The clerk thought it strange that I was buying 2 eye patches.
