Small Format HD and Noise

Hmm, any more information on those filter's he mentioned?

1/4 Tiffen Ulta Contrast or 1/8 Schneider Digicon

Do these work well, anyone with them can you do some tests and post pics?

What about filters that reduce the shadows and make them black? Or would "crushing the blacks" work. It's the same concept.

I don't know, but I did order my HVX today.

I'd like to make one more suggestion along with those we saw in the article and hope I'm not laughed at for it: Try Day for Night if you're shooting narrative.

I was doing some experiments with some footage I shot about and hour before sundown. Having 4:2:2 color space allowed me to do some really amazing things very easily. That color depth allowed me to very quickly key out the blue sky (it was amazingly simple, taking about a quarter of the time than a similar thing would have in miniDV of HDV) and replace it with a black or starry night sky. The 4:2:2 color space also meant replacing the orange-ish look of the light with a deep bluer look for night time worked great and looked pretty natural.

I realize that this may not help much for event shooting at night but for those with a night time scene in a film, consider day for night. It may be easier than you think.
