Small Cineform Problem...I'm a little confused

When I create the temporary AVIs from my 720p footage the size comes out as 960x720 instead of the proper 1280x720....anyone know what simple thing I'm missing?

Hi Sheppy52

If you capture from the HVX your image is a proper 960X720 (anamorphic), but you have the option to resize it to 1280X720 (square pixels) You can do that directly when capturing. If using HDLink go to Prefs/Resize video and choose 1280X720.
Can you specify what do you mean by "temporary" avis ? The avis you get using CineForm is not "temporary", is you editing codec, and your prefered export archiving codec as well.

Yes, Thank you Andreas. Yes the HVX200 like any DVCPRO-HD camera only encodes 720p as 960x720. Using HDLink you can correct for this and upconvert to 1280x720 (which is you final mastering format/resolution.) There are post production quality advantages to do the upscale to square pixels rather than doing your edit at 960x720 with anamorphic pixels.

I was under the impression that when I went into Prefs and selected the Large, Medium, or Small size that those were just proxies that I would use until my final render when CineForm would go back and render the high quality output straight from the MXFs...

Nop. The CineForm files are the new master clips. For course if you where to use "Low" quality it wouldn't be the suitable for for HD masters -- although it is file for SD downconverted work. CineForm files are used as the mastering for all the HD content on the XBOX 360 Live Marketplace (the new download service for movies and TV), and they are using 10-bit Medium quality on their 1080p24 sources. So strick with Medium or High (or in Prospect HD use FilmScan quality) for your masters.
