SLR Magic HyperPrime 12mm test

I've been playing around with this new 12mm lens from SLR Magic. Not to bad if you are looking for something cheaper than the Olympus.

We are testing this lens for review currently and just received our unit. It has play in the focus ring which causes the image to 'jump' went focusing one way then going the opposite. You can do this as gently as possible and it's still problematic.

Are you experiencing this as well?

Here's what stance / Matt and I found so far:

- play in the mount - the lens rotated a little bit when reversing focusing, so the image moved a little bit because of this
- focusing was reversed, like in a Nikon; most lenses made focus the other way
- the aperture ring had a bit of a bounce back at the end, enough to alter exposure

...other than that, it seems like a nice lens. It's like a slightly crude 25mm f/.95.

I didn't say the meter was running. But you are right, I've never actually seen a proper working meter.

FWIW Matt and I got two more copies today, with improved feel and seemingly improved tolerances. My lens now really feels very close to the Voigtlaender 25mm f/.95. Haven't tested the optics yet, shooting stills on the GH2 nor video on the GH2/AF100.

I to experienced play between housing and the rear mount part. But other than that it seams to be a solid lens with good performance.
