First a primer:
Mr Dashwood recently explained to me:
"Maestro,
When you are talking Ciné lenses, there is no way you could even find a prime for under $1000. Your best bet is to rent lenses from a rental house like Clairmont Camera. Go to their website to see the list of lenses they offer and rental rates. Most of these ciné lenses will be "PL" mount for 35mm/16mm and P+S mini35.
http://www.clairmont.com/catalog/pag...nses_main.html
Now the neat thing about the P+S Technik Mini35 and the Redrock Micro35 is that both are available with SLR lens mounts (Nikon, Canon, Pentax, etc.) so you could potentially buy yourself some used prime lenses or one really good zoom at a used camera store. You wouldn't have the geared rings for follow focus attachment though.
The main advantages of primes over zooms is that they have less glass, and therefore are lighter, faster, optically superior (in most cases) and don't "breath" when focusing."
What is follow focus attachment? If say I got the P+S mini35... what is a PL mount? How would say for example this lens: http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/1870.htm attach to the HD100 with the adapter? How would I be able to get said lens on the P+S or the redrock? Will I have to buy an additional accesory? Where would I buy such a thing? For all intents and purposes using a 35mm still camera lens makes a lot more sense financially... right? The difference is rather negligible and certainly not worth the price of those higher end cine prime lenses at 6 thou a pop right? Are there still camera lenses that can go from 18mm to 100mm? If I were to buy a still camera lens, and HD100, and a P+S Mini 35 setup, how would I get the still camera lens on the P+S adapter... What kind of control would I have over the unit? I'd have to pull focus manually on the still camera lens yes? Will there be a need for an extra adapter? I imagine the ring might not fit together precisely... How would one remedy this? Sorry about all the questions, it's just this news is some of the most important I've ever heard of in my life! Affordable cinema production! Who'd a thunk it!
