SLR for the Wife, Video for Me

So my wife wanted a D80 when it came out and I kept putting it off and now that the D90 has released she is asking for it... I have been considering an HV20 or HV30 for myself for a while. I guess my question is will the D90 satisfy us both? I know she will be fine for her still photography, but is the quality of D90 video images going to be as good as an HV20 with a Letus Extreme DOF adapter?
thanks guys

It depends on what type of video you shoot. If you shoot alot of on the fly run and gun stuff then the HV20 would be better. If you shoot carefully cinematic shots then the D90 would be better.

D90 has great low light capabilities as well, which is a nice feature.

Read some of the stickies and see some of the footage on vimeo to get an idea.

Your story doesn't sound right. Does she really want one if she didn't just get it herself while you were "putting it off"? :-)

his story sounds right they both want a camera that can do video and still. If you have the money I would suggest into getting a canon 5dm2.

no, he wants a new video camera and suddenly her loose idea since several years of getting an slr becomes the very reason. if she really wanted one she would have gotten it years ago. :-)

the canon 5D, hmm, interesting option here:
Pros:
Extremely high resolution still camera as professional as it gets
Capable of film (still or motion) DoF out of the box
HDMI and NTSC out that is live while shooting
Live View LCD during still or video shooting
I think it would be perfect for me since I tend to shoot more still imagery than video

Cons:
-- Viewfinder would suck for video shooting IMO (plan on external monitor on long shoot days)
-- Limited record time - no good for events, but that might not be an issue for you.
-- Manual says that shooting with Live View LCD might raise internal temperature of the camera and degrade the image or even shut the camera down. So plan on turning the LCD on and off during shoots
-- Manual says that on-board mic will pick up all camera functions (beeps, image stabilizer motors, etc.) - Use external mic or off camera recording. It has a stereo mini input
-- 30P recording only.
