slowmotion 25p PAL

I've read all the stuff about slowmotion as for 24p/30p footage. But I have PAL DVX100a and I can only shoot 25p. What settings would be optimal for getting best possible slowmotion. Shooting 50i and than deinterlacing so I'd get 50% slower motion or is there a better way?
thanks!

That's about the only way unless you can live with imperfect slow motion (or you have access to Twixtor or similar software).

thanks Shaw! I forgot to ask one thing: is shutter set on 120 the best choice for 25p or is there a way I can calculate what would be the best shutter speed?

I believe (please correct me if I am wrong guys) you would want 1/100 sec since that is double your frame rate.

May have read you wrong but deinterlacing your progressive scan pics will not give you slomotion.

PremPro, After Effects or Twixtor will give you slomo ( the last two rampeable) and it wont hurt to have a faster shutter speed but it is not actually necessary.

yeah... you need to make each field into a frame with a slowmo filter.

I would recommend a higher shutter speed too... 1/100th sounds good.

You can let your NLE just fake the slowmo, but I think it looks distractingly bad.

> yeah... you need to make each field into a frame with a slowmo filter.

how do you exactly do that with premiere pro?

thx,
Andrea

Yes, I understand that deinterlacing will not slow the footage :) I tried slowmotion in Vegas and it's not good, it's seems to me Vegas just crossfades some frames creating more frames. Anyway it doesn't look right. Maybe it's because the optimal rate to slow down 25p footage is 50%? Is it possible to get other speed (say 70% slowmotion or 60%) look good with AE or some other software?

Whats the presedure to make 50i to 50P. Anybody does have a good idea?

Everybdoy is talking about it but nobody knows the presedure?

There are various filters that convert the fields into frames as I said above. That is all you need. It is very easy. You could do it without a filter by doubling up each frame of the 50i footage and and then alternating between de-interlacing odd and even fields on every new frame... but it'll take a while!

I don't know the name of every different filter for every NLE but mine was free and called "Eureka Slow-mo."

When you shoot, use a higher shutter speed, eg 1/100 sec. That prevents smearing in slow-mo. Otherwise it looks like 25p shot at 1/25th sec.

Barry Green answered this a while ago. See http://www.dvxuser.com/V3/showthread.php?t=7135&highlight=motion+slowmo (search and yee shall find)
Anyway Barry's quote is below

For PAL, it's a little more limited, because you don't have the intermediary 30P frame rate to choose from. So the answer is also much, much simpler: shoot 50i at 1/100 shutter speed, and play back at 50% speed in a 25p timeline. Each field will be turned into a frame, giving a motion-perfect 50% slow-mo.
50% isn't reallll ssllooww BUT it is motion perfect.
Incidentally I saw a video camera this week that shoots 5000FPS now that's real slow mo.
