Hey all,
I thought I would share this mishap with you folks, just in case someone runs into this problem too.
The other day, p2 viewer started taking about a minute or more when launched, before it would display the clips from the p2 card from my pcmcia slot. Trying to delete a clip would cause another lengthy hang, at the end of which Windows would complain about a delayed write failure.
I started wondering if my OS needed reinstalling (I've had other signs of late, and I have had this incarnation for much longer than is probably wise)... And I also wondered if some of the backup software I had recently installed (Novabackup and Retrospect) was messing with the p2 viewer peformance in communicating with the p2 card.
My heart was troubled, and being only three days away from embarking an several thousands of kilometers of journey across Australia's hostile outback, a dark cloud hung over my soul as I contemplated the joys of overhauling my OS and getting all my software back online so close to departure time. An OS on its way out is not something I would want to deal with in the outback, in full production mode with hundreds of GBs a week needing to transit to backup via my laptop...
I was not a happy chappy.
In a flash of sobriety, I thought I might just try reinstalling the p2 drivers. And presto, all was well again.
