slow motion

I could have sworn that my friend was showing me some slow-mo clips insid ethe camera playing directly from p2 cards. ANyone know how to play 720p60 footage to play slowed down as if playing in 24p timeline???

Set the recording format to 720p 24 or 24pn and then set the framerate to 60fps in the menu setttings. Playback will be in slomo. The other way is to shoot at 720 60p and then use the framerate convertor in FCP and drop the converted footage into a 24 or 30fps timeline. I'm curious however if that's actually suppose to give the same results. I can't see any major differences in my testing so far between the two methods.

Well this is fairly new to me. I'd like to mix full speed 60p and slomo 60p (via one of the 2 methods above) in the same timeline in FCP without having to render via the speed command on the clips I want in slomo. I'm not sure how one would do that at this point short of possibly exporting the slomo sequence into a self contained file and importing back into a 60fps timeline? But to answer your question I shoot everything in 60p (it's all sports/action footage) because I want the option to use it full speed as well as slow it down. Maybe someone could help me out on the workflow as well?

You may be able to get the slowmo effect in FCP using 60p, but the only way that I have succeded doing it from P2 card is by recording 24pn at a 60 framerate (these are est in two different places in the menus). Played back at 24p, you see 2 1/2-time slow motion.

The answer to my question was pretty simple, 60p footage plays back at normal speed on a 29.97 or 23.98 fps timeline and at 2 or 2 1/2 time slomo after the clip has been run through the FCP FRC and converted. For some reason I assumed 60p footage had to be kept on a 60fps timeline. Things were so much less complicated with the DVX!
