slow motion?

I just jumped back on Avid after a few years with FCP.
What happened to the simple motion effect for changing the speed of a clip?
I found something called timewarp- but that is not what I remember.
This effect brought up a small box and allowed you to enter a % to the time of the clip. For instance if you changed it to 50% it slowed the clip down. 200% sped it up.

Timewarp has some crazy graph and does not even let me change any parameters.

How do I simply change the speed of a clip?

The motion effect is still in the command palette. Map it to your keyboard and you're good to go. Timewarp gives you more control like the ability to key frame speed changes - it's definitely worth spending some time with to get used to the effect controls. That said, I still use the motion effect for the simple stuff.

If it's been a while since you've used Avid, you should check out the new rendering options with motion effects. There is the new fluid motion option which can give you incredibly smooth speed ramping and slow motion effects. Think of it as Avid's version of Twixtor.

To access Fluid Motion when using the traditional Motion Effect, click on the Promote button. It will convert your motion effect into time warp and you will have all of the new render options at your disposal.

(p.s. One of the other amazing changes to Avid is the built in Motion Tracking. This used to be an option only in the high priced Symphony systems, but now it is in Media Composer as well.)
