Slow Motion with Cool Lights Fluorescent Lights

They work great and are flicker free. We use them quite often for high speed. We have 2 6 banks and 6 of the 4 banks.

is there any test shots or someone shots w the cool lights in slow mo? I heard from someone else it flickers.. unless he has an older version of the cool lights.. anyone?

I ordered a couple of them. So hopefully, I can post a shot in a couple of weeks.
Richard, the owner, told me I can return them - minus shipping - if they flicker.

He also told me he does not know for sure if they will flicker with the Sony FS700 at 240 fps
at whatever shutter speeds. I guess I'll find out soon and let everyone know.

Merry Christmas to all of you!!!

I thought these Cool Lights would flicker at 240fps but I just shot a test with 2 of the 4 bulb fixtures 455 series, one dimable one non and see no flicker at all. I have had these lights at least 3 years. I am surprised and impressed.

Mark,

Thanks for posting. The video looks very stable. I checked the video out on a WFM and it looks as good as anything I have seen from fluorescents. I'm getting a couple of Cool Lights in next week and hopefully will be able to check them out and post the results.

now do any of you cool lights owners know if these vs the diva lights are any different (besides price and build quality)? my main concern is color temp and making sure I get the most best and accurate color (56 or 32). I assume buying kino bulbs will do it?

Hey Johnny,
Wish I could be of more help but I have never tested the same kino bulb in a diva and then my CLs. I shot this with Osram bulbs I bought from Barbizon for $12.75 a bulb and find them to match quite well with tungsten fresnel sources. For Daylight I am still using the original bulbs.

well all in all them cool lights looks very nice.. Im going to give them a call and see what they got.. Thanks all! Still contemplating on that or the Diva lites.. Eesh..

Which version of the Coollights are you guys talking about....the "portable" or the "studio" version? I'm very interested in these lights.

I finally got a chance to test the CL-655P Cool Lights with the Sony FS700 at 240 fps. 1/250, 1/500, 1/1000, 1/2000 and 1/4000 are all flicker free.
I asked Richard, the owner of the company, if all the portable lights use the same ballast. Here is his reply:

"We use all the same dimmable type ballasts in all units, dimmable portable and studio, also all the same non-dimmable type for all types of portable and studio non-dimmables.

Also on the remark about someone heard that earlier models flickered is completely false. We have used the same type 40KHZ ballasts since the beginning. That's supposed to be one of the major things that sets this type of pro fixture apart from something else is the ability to not flicker at all for any video or film camera under just about any conditions you can imagine."

If anyone has anymore questions about the Cool Lights you can contact the owner, Richard, at info@coollights.biz.
