Slow Motion w/ the 5D

Which setting should I shoot in 30 or 24 and what is the best way to slow it down after that?

If you have a process that works please share - I'd really appreciate it.

I tried searching only to have the word slow be utilized in the search engine.

I appreciate the help.

Thanks,
A

I will take a guess here that your final piece will be 24p (?).

So . . . shoot at 30p and then interpret (or convert - depending on what you are editing in) your footage to 24p.

This will mean it will playback a little bit slower than real time, not exactly slow-motion, more a subtle 'over-cranked' effect.

This no grammatical sense make English in the.

Hey,

I am in the PAL world and had the chance to take a camera from canon to test it during the WRC 2010 for one day, and i did some experiments with the slow-mo.

I believe your trick is about to use the highest shutter speed that you can use, even if you want to kick in some ISO ....

In this following short towards the end you'll see this super slow motion shot, edited using adobe after effects and shot on 1/4000 f2.8 ISO 100

Good luck,

AMR you slomo clips looks great

using a high shutter when you ramp back down to normal speed it should strobe ? is that smoothed by the software ?

OK, I can't see the video, but if it is super slow motion you need to do this in post rather than in the camera.

The 5D mark II does not do slow motion (other than the slight over cranked look of shooting 30p for 25p).

High shutter speed will make no difference.

High shutter speed will make the difference.
It will retain the detail of each frame, so when you do time wrap on after effects the effect will be a lot better.

Really nice little video. loved all of the cantered angles and you had some really interesting shots...
Even with my choppy playback on vimeo, the slow-mo looked really good also!

A few more questions,

How do I convert the 30 to 24 using motion? Or, do I have to do it on After Effects?

If I use the time warp on after effects for footage shot in 24p what will it look like?

Every time I drop a clip in the timeline it asks me If I want to change the timeline settings to match the clip. Should I say yes or no?

I have After Effects, but have never used it. Can someone give me the rundown of the work flow?

Thanks,
A

NIce work. I especially like the behind the scenes photos. A roller skate, it looks like to me, and a board, fantastic! And your slo-mo looks good.

The slomo did look great - can this be done so well in FCP ?

S

He is using the Twixtor plugin in After Effects, they also make a version for FCP. Definitely worthwhile checking it out. I believe you'd get the same results through FCP. Twixtor interpolates frames very well for slow-mo sequences, and having a quick shutter time at 30p is your best.
