Didn't know if this would be of interest or not, but I was shooting a college basketball game for the first time on Thursday night (Univ of Richmond vs. Dayton) with my HPX500 and found a nifty way to do what looks like a slow motion ramp using 60p footage.
First, a couple of disclaimers. I was late getting there and hiked what seemed like two miles to get to the arena. Opened the bag, threw the HPX on my sholulder and discovered the lens "grip" was not there. Realized I'd had the camera on the matte box and took said grip (with zoom and record controls!) off. Made it kind of difficult to negotiate camera, focus, and such. Not to mention that I had no readout for iris setting and kept hitting the iris ring to boot. Anyway, if footage seems a little shaky and out of focus, I made the best of it. This was shot with a $200 Canon SD lens. Also, should have put in news gamma mode but had on cinema gamma. Oh well, was doing it for fun anyway!
So on to my point. I shot in 720/60p with I think a 180 shutter. I brought the footage into Sony Vegas and set up a 59.97 timeline editing with the P2 cards in the camera. Then, I was able to put a video envelope > event velocity on the clip I wanted to adjust speed on and by appying points I could slow down the footage to where I wanted it and then bring it back up. Looked cool to me but might be old hat to a lot of people here.
The link to my site is http://newmediadevelopmentcorporation.com/Demo Reel.html and it's the first video on the menu. There are two spots where I used it, the first is about a minute in and then one shortly after that.
I'll have to experiment more with this.
