Does anyone know or have any thoughts on getting good slow motion with 720/24p? Understanding that you need an appropriate shutter speed of course...Thanks
I’ve conducted a range of slow motion tests with the HMC, including both 720 and 1080 24p modes, and even tested two third party dedicated applications for the purpose of getting good slow motion from 24p footage.
The bottom line is that it works, but it’s choppy -- kind of a “flicker” type thing.
On the other hand, slow motion from the 720 - 60p mode is magnificent -- really -- outstanding.
My best recommendation is to film everything in 60p - reinterpret the footage you want slowed down to the frame rate you desire -- and for the “film look” simply output your final production at a 23.976 frame rate.
Outputting 60p footage at 23.976 has thus far worked rather nicely (for example, with Adobe Media Encoder). Outputting other frame rates, like 30p to 24p can get a bit choppy.
