o.k as a recent DVX user and new to film. I could really use a lot of help with slow motion. im sure others will benefit from this thread too.

Could you guys help me by telling me what are your prefered SETTINGS for slow motion. from Frame Rate to timeline editing and percentage of speed etc... everything y'know revelent.

and if u have footage online to attach to your thread please do so! that why i posted this here... THANKS GUY!

I agree there are billion slomo posts, but having one post dedicated to personal settings etc would be good.
I tried a few settings i found searching and the results were pretty shitty.
Fresh info is warmly greeted

There's a thousand posts dedicated to this. It's written very clearly in Barry's book also... page 33.

Long story short. NTSC = Shoot 60i with a shutter speed of 1/120th. Import into a 24P timeline, and slow down to 40%.

OR... shoot at 30P and slow down to 80%

Get Twixtor and shoot at a high shutter speed. The latest version is really nice. Nothing compared to the HVX real over crank though.

Besides Twixtor, Realviz Retimer and the TimeWarp/Pixelmotion feature in Adobe After Effects 7.0 should also do the job.

If I get time, I'll do some tests and post some clips.

As promised, here's a quick snippet(REMOVED) using The Foundry's Kronos Filter which is in their Furnace plugin set for AE on some 30p footage.

This is the exact same filter Adobe incorporated into After Effects 7.0 and called it TimeWarp/PixelMotion.

There are some motion artifacts that you can see when the faces overlap each other but nothing too major. I basically just slowed it down to 10% and used the default settings.

Thanks. Although if you think it's nice, I'm sure it has more to do with the subjects than anything I did. ;)

Yep, that's 30p DVX footage.

Only cam settings I changed are:

30p
Gamma: Cinelike
Matrix: Cinelike

Everything else was default. I tried to keep my shutter speed high but it may have only been 1/60 for this particular shot.

As well, this clip was CC'd so most of what you see was done in post.
