Slow-Motion Bitrate

I have the Sony a6500. The 4K, 24p looks fantastic.
But slow motion is rather soft and a just not as good, even though it is 1080p.

I'm wondering if any of the newer Sony cameras (a7III perhaps) has any better slow motion, even though I believe the bitrate is the same as the a6500 last I recall.

Only camera I know thats good for slow motion is the 1DXii

All cameras sample their HD differently and the a6300/a6500 is known to have some of the worst 1080p.

Whether it's by design or a corporate decision to protect other bodies, we'll never know. The a7III has better-looking slow motion but it's still not as good as from the 1DX Mark II (as mentioned) and other 4K/60p cameras like the Panasonics.

Not to say that you need 4K/60p to have good slow motion, but it's the better option if the super-sampling of the HD isn't good.

It has the worst 1080p? Hmm

I tend to shoot a lot at 120p so I can vary my speed for my shots.
But I use 60p for slow motion at night. But I believe that is even lower resolution if im not mistaken.

Interesting. They all state to have the same bitrate. So, which sony camera would have the best slow motion?

It has some of the worst 1080p in terms of general consensus regarding what's available from the other Sony models and/or its competitors.

It's easy to see as you're pointing out yourself...soft and filled with moire and aliasing (especially the 120p).

[On a side note, it's common in the camera industry to hinder cameras based on the model and/or business decisions.]

60p looks a bit better (arguable), but still nothing like compared to the 4K/24p/30p, which is specifically over-sampled from the 6K sensor (they even mention it in the marketing description).

Even though this model is loaded with features, the bitrate in this case doesn't matter because the best processing just isn't available. The camera is no doubt able to produce better 1080p but Sony isn't allowing it. The various models may have the same bitrate but they are producing their HD differently (at least some of them are).

IMO, the a7III probably has the best as far as mirrorless cameras are concerned (maybe the a7RIII and a9 do too but I haven't used them).

As others have said, the problem in this case is not bitrate but sensor sampling, and it happens in all its 1080p modes, including 24fps. My RX100 IV has the same bitrate and 1080p is much, much better. I'd say it's perfect at 24-60fps, pretty good at 120fps, good-enough at 240fps, and as-bad-as-on-the-a6300/a6500 at 480fps.
