Slow Mo Video Booth with the FS700

pythonman,
Thanks for the reply.

Are your lights made by http://www.coollights.biz/ ?

I've been thinking of getting a couple of them.

They certainly look the same. I suspect the UK supplier I got them from imports and badges them with their name, so they probably come from the same source. I have been very happy with them, and they work off a DMX desk as well if required. They use the same 55W bulbs as the Kino Flo, but the lights are about half the price of the Kinos.

Sorry, I'm laying claim to inventing this.

I came up with the Phantom Photo Booth back in 2007 when I was Product Manager for the Phantom HD camera at AbelCine. We set up some Kinoflo banks and brought in lots of silly props including a leaf blower for people to get crazy with at 1000fps. I would set up a large HD monitor for everyone to watch the playback, including the people waiting for their turn at bat. To keep things moving efficiently I would capture to the camera's internal RAM and then during playback record to a KiPro as we came along to anything I thought interesting. When you shoot 1000fps there's a LOT of dead time but it also means that you get some great faceslap skin ripples and hair flips. Things usually got increasingly interesting as the partygoers got increasingly drunk.

This went over very well at client parties and we made an interesting little side business running these Phantom Photo Booths for a while. Not exactly a normally sustainable business in practice as we were walking out the door with a couple hundred grand in gear each time, but boy was it fun. When the Phantom Miro came out at a much lower price point we marketed the idea of some people buying it to go into business doing this sort of work.

I love this idea! I am in the wedding industry and you guys have given me a lot to think about here.

I would also love to know what fixtures were used to light the zendesk video. Great Job.

I don't know what fixtures he used, but knowing the sensitivity of the FS700, I would think you could get a similar look and coverage with a couple of KinoFlo Diva 401 lights. Those high frequency ballasts and biax bulbs won't flicker at 240fps.

Thank you for the response Mitch. I have been researching everything I can about the FS700 over the past couple of months. I currently have a Panasonic AG-AC160A and I am looking to upgrade to the new FS700R once it becomes available. When I take the plunge, I will be in touch with you guys regarding an Odyssey 7Q also.

I have had the Panasonic AG-AC130 for a couple of years and have been fortunate enough to keep it while also acquiring the FS700. The Panny is a great camera and still holds up well with the Sony footage for B-roll. But, you will love the expanded abilities and look the FS700 unlocks. Great next step up. Just wanted to offer that endorsement on it being a great way to go.

Thank you for the comment. It is good to hear that you feel the FS700 is an improvement over the panny AC130. I am looking forward to upgrading. Hopefully, the new models will hit the shelves in the next month or two.
