Slow-Mo Singing shot

Hey ya'll

I am shooting a music video in the next coming weeks using a dvx-100A.
There is a particular shot i am looking for and that is the singer singing to the camera in slow motion yet in time with the song. I have my theories on how to achieve but thought id ask for advice. I wish to achieve a nice fluent shot of him walking towards the camera singing.

I assume i speed the song up and make him mime to the sped up song and then slow the footage down til it fits with the song but i want it to be nice and smooth. I have seen this effect in many music videos and hope to get some advice.

you can check out my previous videos at www.myspace.com/mcgvideocore.

Website up soon.

cheers

Why de-interlace?

Shoot in 30p, play the footage back in a 24p timeline at 80%, you'll have frame-accurate slow motion. Play the song at 125% speed, should sync up perfectly.

i've tried shooting a shoot once at 60i tried to low it down , The back ground was choppy( had two actors running from left to right, while the lead was in front), I've tried to deinterlace it and it looks better.

i keep seeing this... shoot in 30p then move to 24p timline to do all the slowmo stuff... why is that? i mean i have been doing that and it doese work but what would happen in you just kept it in the standard timeline

That's right. Playing the song at let's say, twice the speed and making the singer playback at that same doubled speed is going to permit you to get a perfect 50% (and hence, apparently back to normal) shot that matches the original speed of the music.

In other words, your theories are right.

As I said in another thread, the best method (this I can guarantee) is not deinterlacing or anything, just applying (for Final Cut Pro) a filter that makes one frame out of every field. So you must shoot at 60i. That'll give you a perfect 50% slo mo of 30fps. Such filter or plugins are Joe's filters or RSFieldsKit. Both do a pretty good job (I prefer RS, though).

Good luck.
