SLOW MO...IN CAMERA or IN POST??

I hope this is not a dumb question but for a slow motion effect, is this done entirely in post?

I know that I have to wisely choose film speed (24p, 30p, 60i etc.) but nothing else needs to be set in-camera, correct? I am trying to get my camera settings arranged and set up, now, so I'll have less to think about in 2 weeks.

TRY IT !!!

But here is one way. If you shoot in 30p, and play back in 24p, you get frame-accurate slow mo without extra artifacts. Slo mo in post works too, just different. In that case, some people think 60i does a better slo mo. You have to try a variety of options and see what suits you.

Galt-

Thanks for the reply. By "play-back in 24p" do you mean play back in VCR mode in the camera OR do you mean capture the 30p footage and drop it in a 24p NLE timeline?

I would LOVE to spend the entire weekend experimenting, but I am in some major crunch time at work. So, any suggestions you can give me, I will not only try them at some point this weekend, but I will greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

If you shoot 60i, you can then use a filter in post that will make each field a frame, halving the speed of your action. By doing this you do loose some resolution, but I don't think it is too bad. IMO better than normal post-production slow-mo.

Get the DVX-100a DVD training sold somewhere here on the forum. In the DVD you'll find the information you are looking for.

just do a search on the forum, "slo mo" or "slow mo" this question has been covered many many times over here...

Dude-

If it inflames you so much that I asked a question that has already been asked....why did you bother answering???

Just curious-
Rick

Rick,

i am far from "inflamed". i bothered answering in order to help you out by giving you information on how to answer your question. there are steps to take to do it right based on your specific situation and you will find them all already on this site.

i know with typed text sometimes its hard to tell if the person is pissed or what but i barely said anything there to make you think i had some problem with your post, sheesh!

The-Lyons-Den-

I apologize for being testy. I was having a difficult day and I wigged out. When you do a lot of searches, it's still difficult sometimes to find the exact answer to what you are looking for. Sometimes the answer IS right there but difficult to discern because it can be easy to misconstrue advice. I just wanted to attack the problem I had with understanding the concept of slowing down footage by beginning my own thread so I could make sense out of it, from my own perspective and my own line of questioning.

Again, I appreciate you taking the time to point me in the right direction and I do apologize for giving you a tude.

Rick
