just testing the slow mo capabilities. the last two clips are HVX clips for comparison, they were both done in camera. the other clips are all hmc, 720 60p, dropped into a 24p timeline then slowed to 50%. all of the skate clips except the fall are of me, so dont critique the angles so hard :)

NOW WITH NO FRAME BLENDING!!!

Very nice stuff. How did you get such a camera at your age...if you dont mind me asking?

Fiddle around with your workflow a little more. Your NLE is trying to interpolate between the slowmo frames causing a ghosting effect (especially apparent in the second shot, the one with the sky). See what I mean?

haha thanks, i get that a lot. Well, first I saved up for a sony vx1000, then went onto a skateboard filming site and traded it for a sony vx2100, then i traded that for a dvx100, then sold that, saved the money from that. while that money was sitting in an account, i was busy teaching skateboard lessons to the upper-class families putting a lot of effort into teaching them and giving them all a good time, this led to tips and higher pay, i saved all that money from that and combined it with the money from my dvx100, started my own event filming company and used all my money to start that up and bought another dvx100b, then saved up from there to buy an HMC. whew, thats about it, i could have just said i saved for it, but somehow i dont think it would have sounded as cool hahaha.

yea, i saw that and was going to ask what i was supposed to do about it? What settings should i tweak, i just thought it was there because i had my shutter so high, but that didnt really make any sense, soooo im not sure whats up? any suggestions?

wow, thanks a lot!!! im surprised you liked them, i figured since they were just mostly stationary shots i wouldnt get too much love for them, but i tried to make them as interesting as possible. Thanks again!!!

close ups give a perspective we can't normally see. I can see wide shots of skaters in any mall parking lot :)

I think the ghosting is not your shutter, but frame resampling, which in most NLE is default when slowing down footage. It needs to be turned off. Check the help file of your NLE

haha true, very true!!! i am using adobe premier pro cs4, if that helps, maybe someone can give me some guidance? if not ill have to look later.

Let's see, I think Premiere CS4 calls it "frame blending". Premiere will be my NLE of choice very soon (right now I'm only borrowing a license key from a friend), but I'll buy my own key and do lots more formal testing / get a real workflow after I start on a few real projects and have answers for some of these questions.

It does look like a wee bit of frame blending and if you shot with a faster shutter then you shouldn't need that on at all.

I agree.. this is some really great looking footage. very nicely composed.. interesting angles and very steady and smooth. The ending shot was really great. It's nice to see a unique look and not just a super wide fisheye. Did you use a wide angle or fish on this? IF so, what?

There was only one or two shots that looked to be overexposed. Keep it up bro! My 6 year old is starting to skate... and would love to get him some lessons but you are in DC right?

I think you should shoot a whole video. People would dig that. Keep it as fresh and unique as this and you'll have something really cool. CHEERS!

thanks a lot!!! i was not expecting this! these were mainly just test shots hahaha, i did my best to shoot myself, i wanted to see what my tricks looked like. on the shots in the beginning i had my 16x9 fisheye on, because i was super close to the camera. also on the shots where I olly (jump) over the camera, i had my fisheye on. unfortunately i do live in DC, so i couldnt give your kid some lessons, unless of course you are ever in my area ahaha. thanks a lot for the kind words and advice, they are refreshing and inspiring to hear!!!

PS: I turned frame blending off and now it looks amazing!!! i will be changing the one up there out with the new one with frame blending off. Thanks a lot guys! i was stressing!

No worries. This forum is great to give praise and advice. People are very supportive of others and I know that I am. Barry G and others have helped me in getting better at my craft, and I've also met a lot of cool DVXusers and done quite a few gigs for people over the year. If you stay cool, offer advice and encouragement, give credit when it's due and don't FUD, people will recipricate.

I think this is one of the best forums and websites online. Keep up the good work and ya did pick a good cam to shoot this stuff with. I'm also hoping to pick up the GH1 too. That would be a really cool one for skate tricks as it's so small.

have you ever thought of making a body mounted rig to shoot some of this with... A smaller cam like the SD9 or the GH1 would work very well...

cheers

i was close to picking up the gh1 a few days ago, i did a 4 day event and got paid some big bucks for it, so i was looking to invest the money into another camera, but didnt :( and i was sketching out some ideas for a body mount but havent really executed it yet, but i have strapped the camera to the actual skateboard before....didnt work out too great hahaha. it vibrated from the ground and didnt work too well. but im working on a few DIY projects this weekend or next. and i completely agree with what you said about this site. i have yet to find one that even comes close to this one!!!
