When I shoot at 25pn at 50 fps the native playback is 25fps so we get half speed slow motion so essentially a 50% speed reduction in the edit. The interesting thing is that if you then speed this footage up in say FCP by 200% you would expect to get 100% normal motion right ?
Well it seems not, the footage looks way to fast and speeding up by 180% seems to get around the most normal playback speed.
Anybody else notice this or what am i missing ?

yer we have noticed that also. footage goes all jittery and gross. not sure wat the cause is though, im sure someone will.

Could it be your video card struggling to keep up? Do you have a GPU monitor you can watch while the playback is on?

I don't use FCP so I don't know what it might be doing to you. Your instincts are correct, you can drop every other frame and get normal-speed motion, and this is how one would actually do speed-ramping too. So FCP's messing it up somehow, probably related to frame blending or field blending; an FCP expert here should get you straightened out in no time.

turn off "frame blending." And make sure you have it off whenever you do any time remapping to any clip.
I just sped up a 30pn 48 clip and it looks like it was just shot in 30. So I think it should work for you.
