SloMo (not DVX)

Looks good.

I just got AE and shoot a lot of biking/skiing as well.

I'm only shooting with a GL2 but if there's a way I can get the 30i to look worth a damn with any sort of slow mo, I'd be stoked.

Any hints on getting started?

Not sure how to do it in PC land, but what ends up happening is each field of the interlaced frame becomes a frame and gives you 60ish fps... then, you conform it to 24 so you have 24 or 12 of the interlaced frames (now single frames) to the second.

Gives a beautiful slow motion.

Never tried it in AE...

Makes sense.......don't know if there's a way to do it in AE though. Kind of sounds like what the pixel motion feature does. Now if I can just find it:D

I'm pretty overwhelmed with the program at the moment.

Time stretch in AE, although the best for a LONG time, is not what I'm talking about. Also, adaptive retiming on the mac started with program Shake and moved now into Motion and FCP where it will actually build frames rather than just 1) blurring them 2) duplicating them.

But again - yes, time remapping is very easy and effective to do in AE. But if you don't like the results they aren't going to get any better (unless you use different percents... 80 works better than 79 etc).

Any idea on how to only time stretch a very specific portion of your clip? I can remap/stretch an entire clip but I can't figure out how to remap say 2 seconds of a 10 second clip. The manual isn't very helpful or I not understanding what's stated. The time stretch window doesn't accurately put in a 'point in' and 'point out' for just the stretching. A keyframe feature here would be nice.

Dory's original post is a good example of what I'm talking about. That's all I'm looking to do.

Figured I'd keep it in this thread instead of a new one about my stupidity.:D
Thanks for anything you feel like sharing.

FWIW, the pixel motion blending looks great for what I'm interested in. Glad dory posted this.

The method using 60i and then seperating fields to frames or however its said is good ONLY FOR THAT SPECIFIC SPEED. Pixlemotion allows you to remap/crank to almost any speed you want, and you dont have to shoot 60i, you can do it from a 24p or 30p native clip. That being said, 30p is the better way to go here, as there is already more data to work with.

kidwoo, if you check out andrew kraimers time remaping tutorial , you can find out many useful things about Pixlemotion.

You wouldnt happen to be the kidwoo from MTBR would you?

I figured it out since I was posting in this. And you're right, it looks great.

I ALSO just got premiere pro CS3 and the same feature is in there, and much easier to work with as far as working continuously and not going back and forth with AE.

But thanks for planting the seed........glad I know this.

And yeah.....same woo:D

Lol, I'm the Tool (I'll let you guess my name over there meh).

Anyway, I havent gotten the thingimuhflip in PPro3 to work, just the regular time strech. I'm going to go RTMFM right now but still if you could share any tips that would be good.

Also PM me about filming in tahoe this febuarry,

No fair.....there are lots of 'tools' on mtbr:D What's your name over there?

There's a time remapping feature in the effects controls in PP CS3. Using this you can put in keyframes to 'ease in' and out of the slow mo. Each keyframe you put in can be split so by adding two, you actually have four. Then you drag down the 'rubber band' between them to whatever percentage you want the clip slowed.

You can also just do the old rate stretch thing which is simpler but sometimes looks a little more abrupt.

Here's the kicker......the frame blending is already there when you screw with either of these. You can check this just by highlighting a clip then go clip>video options>frame blend. According to the PP manual, pixelmotion is what's being used.

On everything I've tried, frame blend is already checked and it's obvious when viewing the clip that it's already being applied. It looks nothing like the choppy crap you'd get from just doing a rate stretch in my old version of PP.

Here's one from AE
pardon the barhump steeze.:D

Looks the same to me.

I'll send you a pm about shooting up here.

Hopefully I'll have sold my gl2 and will have a dvx in hand by then.

Try it with a faster shutter in AE pixlemotion.

But those did look good.

I am the God Tool, Mr. =ChrisB= himself.
