FS7: slog3 color correction breakdown video

The gain of the SLog3 gamma curve above middle gray is approximately unity. There is no knee area. There is a point where less data is allocated into each successive stop, meaning fewer shades. Whether that point has been reached, is open to debate. Personally I don't think it looks wooden but I may not have the eye for it.

being picky, the only think in the final grade which also exists in the original slog image is the very hot light reflected off the bar in the background in two spots. I didn't really try to treat it and left it as-is but if its clipped, its clipped so hard to play with.

Looking on an Apple 27" Cinema OLED monitor (calibrated) I am quite happy with the overall look considering I did not spend eons on grading it. Also coming from the F55 it shows the FS7 does not fall short of much, wait till the camera records ProRes or RAW.

Thanks Dennis for posting this. I can't tell though from the video what grade is being used for each swipe. Do you have info on that? Thanks.

All I have for now are quick notes for each pass. Some of the passes, such as #2 and #10 can be difficult to see the difference but it's there;

1 gain, saturation
2 highlights
3 lows, mids
4 mids, highs
5 kodak lut 2383
6 mask center
7 secondary / skin
8 secondary / skin saturation
9 secondary / shadows
10 secondary / highlights
11 vignette

I might go into my Odyssey7Q's false color setting and change the false color values to reflect where my Slog3 values should be. Or I suppose I could use the Slog3 LUT built into the 7Q and just use the stock false color values. It's nice that the 7Q has the capability to change the values, though!

Looks really good!

I think one can see the potential of the footage anyway even if you
don't like it in an artistic way.

THX for posting!
